Troop 282 Cadettes Attend Three Prince Charmings at the Industrial Strength Theater

Girl Scout Troop 282 of Springfield, VA attended the play, Three Prince Charmings, at the Industrial Strength Theater in Herndon, VA on February 4th.  The show included twists on traditional tales, starring Prince Charming, Cinderella, Snow White, and Rapunzel, as well as several witches and other characters.  The cast signed autographs for the audience and posed for photos after the show. Cadette Troop 2686 Girls Night Out

Cadette Troop 2686 of Service Unit 32-1 had a girls night out at a local Japanese restaurant. The girls are working on the new "The Gift of Trees" patch program.  Sushi and other Japanese foods were enjoyed as the girls took the "Chopstick Challenge" learning chopstick etiquette and "mastering" their technique using chopsticks with their meal instead of silverware.   Photographer:  Christine Collins

Troop 5958 Troop 5958 visit the Embassy of United Arab Emirates

A Girl Scout from Troop 5958 and her mother (their advisor) are moving to Dubai.   Troop 5958 arranged a trip to the Embassy of Arab Emirates in order for their troop to learn more about the country.  They had a fascinating tour of the Embassy, met with a professor of Political Science to learn about the history and politics of the country, watched a movie on its astounding 40 year growth and the girls were able to ask any questions about the adventures their friends have in store for them. submitted by: Lisa McGrail

SU 51-7 Herndon Girl Scouts Honor the 100th with 100 Blanket Drive for Local Shelter

In honor of the Girl Scouts’ 100th anniversary, troops from Service Unit 51-7 launched the “Spread the Warmth: Girl Scout 100 Blanket Drive” in December support of Reston Interfaith’s Embry Rucker Shelter. At a December meeting, Girl Scouts brought in the blankets, linens, towels and pillows they collected; created Thank You cards for donors; created flyers for collection bags; decorated cards for Operation Smile; listened to a presentation by Reston Interfaith on other volunteer opportunities; and bagged the blankets and linens, and placed them in Reston Interfaith’s van. Thanks to the girls' donations, as well as donations from Herndon Patch and Reston Patch readers, SU 51-7 reached its goal of 100 blankets in December. Submitted by: Therese Howe 

Troop 1225 Brownie Troop 1225 First Aid

Brownie Troop 1225 of SU 54-16 Fairfax, Leaders Kristin Kelley and Pat Moran, earned their First Aid Badge at a troop meeting recently.  They had a great time role playing First Aid responses.  Bandaging each other was definitely a highlight!  They came away feeling better about what to do in an emergency, how to properly call 911, and how to do a Site Safety Checklist wherever they gather! Association 32 Junior Scouts from Association 32 Earn their aMuse Journey Award

Fifty Junior Scouts from Association 32 earned their aMuse Journey Award at Brighton Lodge on January 15th and now are ready to Take Action to earn their Bronze Award!  Cadette Amber Lafond of Troop 2686 led the workshop.  Teen helpers included Beza Kidane (Troop 401), Katie Crocker (Troop 2796), Abbie Lafond (Troop 2686), and Haley Lennon (Troop 2686).  Cadettes from Troop 2686 are using the proceeds from this event to travel to Savannah over Spring Break 2012. Brownie troops from SU 70-5 Wegmans Veggie Patch Class

Brownie troops from SU 70-5 participated in the Wegmans Veggie Patch cooking class.  The girls toured the produce department and received tips on nutrition and making healthier food choices. All girls participated in food preparation and learned the importance of hand washing and food safety.   Some new foods were introduced to the girls and after a little coaxing, the girls discovered that the spaghetti squash wasn't so bad after all!  Each Brownie received a Wegmans Veggie Patch and a class handout containing recipes and lesson reinforcement activities.  Photographer: Brenda Kearney

Troop 3643 Troop 3643 Cooks Dinner for 20

Troop #3643 of Rockville, MD did a community service event on Sunday, January 8.  They cooked a delicious hot and healthy meal for twenty residents of the Dorothy Day Place in Rockville, MD - a transitional shelter for women.  Faith United Church in Rockville was generous enough to let the troop use their industrial kitchen for the meal prep.
