Girls Night Out
Cadette Troop 2686 of Service Unit 32-1 had a girls night out at a local Japanese restaurant. The girls are working on the new "The Gift of Trees" patch program. Sushi and other Japanese foods were enjoyed as the girls took the "Chopstick Challenge" learning chopstick etiquette and "mastering" their technique using chopsticks with their meal instead of silverware. Troop 5958 visit the Embassy of United Arab Emirates
A Girl Scout from Troop 5958 and her mother (their advisor) are moving to Dubai. Troop 5958 arranged a trip to the Embassy of Arab Emirates in order for their troop to learn more about the country. They had a fascinating tour of the Embassy, met with a professor of Political Science to learn about the history and politics of the country, watched a movie on its astounding 40 year growth and the girls were able to ask any questions about the adventures their friends have in store for them. submitted by: Lisa McGrail |

Herndon Girl Scouts Honor the 100th with 100 Blanket Drive for Local Shelter
In honor of the Girl Scouts’ 100th anniversary, troops from Service Unit 51-7 launched the “Spread the Warmth: Girl Scout 100 Blanket Drive” in December support of Reston Interfaith’s Embry Rucker Shelter. At a December meeting, Girl Scouts brought in the blankets, linens, towels and pillows they collected; created Thank You cards for donors; created flyers for collection bags; decorated cards for Operation Smile; listened to a presentation by Reston Interfaith on other volunteer opportunities; and bagged the blankets and linens, and placed them in Reston Interfaith’s van. Thanks to the girls' donations, as well as donations from Herndon Patch and Reston Patch readers, SU 51-7 reached its goal of 100 blankets in December. Submitted by: Therese Howe |

Brownie Troop 1225 First Aid
Brownie Troop 1225 of SU 54-16 Fairfax, Leaders Kristin Kelley and Pat Moran, earned their First Aid Badge at a troop meeting recently. They had a great time role playing First Aid responses. Bandaging each other was definitely a highlight! They came away feeling better about what to do in an emergency, how to properly call 911, and how to do a Site Safety Checklist wherever they gather!
