Fall Interfaith Program Intern

The Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital, which serves 63,000 girls ages 5-17 from diverse cultural, religious and socio-economic backgrounds in the greater Washington area, is seeking qualified applicants for its Interfaith Program Initiative internship position.  The internship is designed to provide practical, hands-on interfaith program delivery experience to students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate-level degree in religious studies, cultural studies, education, communications, or other relevant discipline. 

Interfaith Program Intern

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement interfaith programming for the GSCNC community:
    • Strengthen and coordinate the Interfaith Sister Troop initiative, which is designed to partner troops of different religious backgrounds with one another and offer age appropriate interfaith opportunities and dialogue
    • Establish relationships with outside religious and interfaith organizations to implement and strengthen the Open Houses of Faith program, which offers troops educational opportunities to visit a diverse offering of houses of worship
    • Create, develop, write and interpret other relevant interfaith program materials for new initiatives
  • Coordinate the GSCNC Interfaith Committee; Recruit and train additional mentors and volunteers to assist with interfaith program delivery
  • Research and assist in drafting proposals for grants and funding opportunities related to interfaith and religious programming
  • Attend training sessions and ongoing program meetings as scheduled
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed

Schedule

  • For Fall Internship, 3-4 months, September-December (flexible)
  • Flexible hours; GSCNC office hours are 9 am-5 pm.
  • Minimum 15-20 hours/week commitment

Requirements

  • Prior experience and enthusiasm for working with girls ages 5-17, families, and adults
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Sensitivity to religious and cultural differences, and the ability to navigate difficult conversations and topics

Academic credit may be arranged in cooperation with a sponsoring college or university. A travel stipend is available.
