Linguistic Outreach SpecialistPOSITION: Linguistic Outreach Specialist REPORTS TO: Membership Initiatives Manager PRIMARY AREAS OF WORK: The Linguistic Outreach Specialist works with the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital in organizing a wide range of youth activities under the auspices of the Girl Scout Program. COMMUNITY LIAISON Contribute to the overall accomplishment of the Corporate Goals, by meeting membership registration goals for girls, adults, demographic representation and other identified elements in assigned geographic areas. Collaborates with representatives and organizations in securing potential facilities and resources for Girl Scout activities. Follows through consistently with contacts, plans, commitments, etc. to assure maximum effectiveness and to establish credibility within the community. OUTREACH ACTIVITIES Introduces the Girl Scouting program to target groups through presentations, recruitment sessions, parents meetings, orientations, and participation in festivals and community-based activities. Plans the delivery of outreach presentations to insure continuity and cooperation of activities. Supports leaders and administrative volunteers by providing assistance with the implementation and coordination of program activities, recruitment, training, council events, etc. Supports existing summer programs by providing additional assistance (i.e. field trips staff consultants, program materials, etc.) ADMINISTRATION Completes field work assignment of research and statistical data (dense Hispanic population centers, county Hispanic student numbers by grade, cultural and religious organizations membership.) Maintains accurate records on assigned area; activities individual contacts, volunteers, plans, statistics, etc. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a related field is required. Substantial knowledge of and experience in the human services field an/or community service agency is required. Thorough understanding and appreciation of the importance of family, cultural heritage, traditions, and values within the context of the Hispanic community. Demonstrated ability to manage people and projects as shown by previous work with families and youth in the Hispanic community. Acknowledged research and evaluation techniques. Superior interpersonal communication skills. Excellent presentation skills. Proven ability to work effectively in a public community setting. Must be able to lift 35 pounds without difficulty.
