National Delegate Information
GSUSA convenes a National Council Session every three years. Each Girl Scout Council is represented by Delegates. The number of National Delegate positions is determined by GSUSA according to our girl enrollment as of September 30 of the year immediately prior to the convention.
National Delegates are responsible for representing the Council at the National Council Session. The term of a National Delegate is three years (2014 - 2017) and while the National Council Session is currently scheduled to occur at the beginning of the term, it is always possible that an additional “special” meeting will be called during the three-year period.
National Delegates are expected to participate in all pre-convention delegate meetings. Participation is mandatory. National Delegates are also expected to report back at various constituency meetings when they return from the National Council Session in Salt Lake City, Utah. National Delegates will have the following expenses covered by the council: convention registration, airfare (lowest group fare), and hotel (double occupancy). A nominal per diem is provided for meals.
Alternate Delegates are elected to fill vacancies in the National Delegate group if they occur. The President of our Council and the Board of Directors have the power to fill National Delegate vacancies from among the pool of elected Alternate Delegates. There are no guarantees that Alternate Delegates will be called into service, however, in the last several conventions at least one Alternate Delegate has been asked to assume the position of National Delegate. All Alternate Delegates are invited to all pre-convention delegate meetings. Participation is not mandatory. If an Alternate Delegate is asked to replace a National Delegate, convention expenses will be reimbursed at the National Delegate level.
Girls selected by the Nominating Committee to be National Delegate or Alternate Delegate will be included in all meetings and will have the following expenses covered by the Council: convention registration, airfare (lowest group fare), and hotel (double occupancy). A nominal per diem is provided for meals.
