Cadette Troop 5126 with Corporal Ken MatneySafety Discussion with Local Police

Cadette Troop 5126 of Rockville and Potomac, Maryland spent an afternoon at the City of Police Department discussing safety issues with Corporal Ken Matney. They toured the police facilities and had an opportunity to see what things police officers carry when on duty.  The girls discussed the importance of knowing your surroundings, knowing the address of where you are in case you need to make a 911 call, and the importance of always telling your parents about any suspicious things that happen. One of the most interesting things they learned is that all telephones are programmed to make 911 calls with no charge. Cell phones that have a code to open them also have emergency call or SOS buttons that automatically call 911.  The girls were grateful for the time and advice that Corporal Matney gave them to be safe in the future. The troop also brought their collection of donated Gift of Caring Girl Scout cookies to the police station. Submitted by Christina Halpern.
