Troop 2943 Supports Day to Serve!

The Girl Scouts from Troop 2943 spent time in Walmart on September 28 buying toiletry items for donations to Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) for their Day to Serve activity. The items will be used for the homeless families supported by ACTS. Troop 2943 used their cookie donation money to purchase the items for these families! Submitted by Nicole Kegler.

Troop 5881 Food Drive Lorton Community Action Center - Food Drive

Senior Troop 5881 of Springfield/Lorton held a food drive to benefit the food bank at Lorton Community Action Center.  They collected 6 carts of groceries and other consumables that LCAC valued at nearly $1,100!! Submitted by Vonda Peterson

Troop 360 - Hershey Park Hershey Park

Daisy Girl Scout Troop 4574 - Celebrates International Day of Peace International Day of Peace

Daisy Girl Scout Troop 4574 of Peoples Congregational Church in Washington, DC celebrated International Day of Peace  during their first meeting of the scouting year. The girls talked about what it meant to be peaceful and to be at peace.  The girls all agreed to spread the word about International  Day of Peace.

International Coastal Clean-up

Girls from Troop 1273 participated in the International Coastal Clean-up along the Potomac River on Sept. 21st and helped clean up and track all sorts of trash. Submitted by Jennifer Manguera.

Empty Bowls fundraiser for Capital Area Food Bank Empty Bowls Fundraiser for the Capital Area Food Bank

Junior Girl Scout Troop 712 of Olney, Maryland, participated in the Empty Bowls fundraiser for the Capital Area Food Bank by painting ceramic bowls at The Mud Hut in Olney.  The girls did a fantastic job of designing beautiful bowls that are sure to become a treasured keepsake for one of the guests at the event.  The bowls will be glazed and fired by The Mud Hut and brought to the Capital Area Food Bank.  The empty bowls are a symbol of the struggle against hunger. Senior Troop 5881 Farmers’ Market - Sow What Journey

Senior Troop 5881 of Springfield/Lorton visited the Lorton Farmers’ market while working on their Sow What Journey.  The vendor from Kuhn’s Orchard talked to the girls about all of the different produce, and gave them samples of a wide variety of apples, many of which they purchased to take home.  They also enjoyed the breads and pastries from the Swiss Bakery’s stand, and purchased vegetables from another vendor for a salad lunch. SU 33-9 Sweetest Kind of Outreach

Girls Scouts ranging from Brownies to Cadettes in Service Unit 33-9 came out for an Outreach event at the Cabin John Shopping Center. The girls shared short descriptions of their leadership, camping, badge and service experiences with the families that were out shopping in the community.  The girls were able to examine each other's vests to see the variety of earned badges and fun patches that other troops had earned. It looks like there will be another fun patch for an Ice Cream Social on the backs of the vests of these girls! Submitted by Christina Halpern.

Troop 5881 Recruiting at the Elementary School

Girls from Senior Troop 5881 of Springfield/Lorton did a wonderful job recruiting new scouts at Saratoga Elementary School’s back-to-school night! Submitted by Vonda Peterson.

Troop 6202 of Waldorf, Maryland hosted its fourth Luau & Splash Aloah! ... from Troop 6202

Multilevel Troop 6202 of Waldorf, Maryland hosted its fourth Luau & Splash Party on Saturday, September 7th, at North Point Pool.  This tradition started in 2010 and was originally intended as a kickoff of the new school / GS Service Year for troop members. The Scouts decided to open the event to others in 2012.  Since then the event has not only served as an opportunity to fellowship with sister Scouts, but to recruit girls interested in Girl Scouting.
