GIRL SCOUTING BUILDS GIRLS OF COURAGE, CONFIDENCE, AND CHARACTER, WHO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.

African-Americans in Congress

In partnership with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, GSCNC has created the African-Americans in Congress patch program for Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors to honor and celebrate the contributions made to American history by black leaders and the legislative efforts that have moved us toward equality for all.

The keystone of this program is the CBCF's online library, Avoice: African American Voices in Congress, which Girl Scout Teens will explore during their progress through this patch.

Through the patch program, Girl Scout Teens will be challenged to:

  • Attend a Congressional hearing
  • Learn about environmental justice
  • Interview a community elder
  • Share their discoveries with others

Girls will discover the history and leaders of the past, connect in the present with others locally and globally, and advocate for their future by taking steps to make the world a better place.
