Junior Girl Scout Troop 4848 from Rockville Maryland had an exciting surprise on Friday morning, October 15th, during a White House tour: on their way in for the regular tour of the White House's public rooms, they were invited by staffers to watch the arrival of the Presidential helicopter, Marine One as it landed on the South Lawn of the White House. Then they were able to watch President Barack Obama depart from the West Wing to board Marine One. The President waved to the girls and their parents as he boarded Marine One. National media photographers captured the images of the girls waving to the president.
Teen Scouts from Alexandria, VA Enjoyed Circe Makeover
Ten teen Girl Scouts from Alexandria, VA were invited by the Circe Salon and Day Spa for a complimentary, age-appropriate makeover. Maria Escobar educated the girls on some of the finer points in hair care and along with owner Ellen Vlasak and Esthetician Sharlia Lee gave makeovers to the girls. A good time was had by all!
Ice Cream Social Held for Colorado Girl Scouts
This summer, a Cadette Troop from Rockville, Maryland, hosted a Cadette troop from Colorado for an ice cream social. The troop connection was made when the Colorado troop contacted GSCNC looking to pair up with a DC area troop for some Girl Scout bonding beyond their state borders. The Rockville Cadettes jumped at the opportunity and the girls has a wonderful time getting to know their Girl Scout sisters from halfway across the nation
Brownie Troop Met Mayor Sidney Katz During Girl Scout Cookie Sale
A Brownie troop in Gaithersburg seized the day during cookie booth sales this past year and asked Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz if he would like to buy some Girl Scout Cookies. The Mayor commended the girls on their sales technique, purchased cookies, and even joined the girls for what Mayor Katz informed the Brownies was "a photo op"

25 girls (representing 4 different troops) visited Savannah, GA in the summer of 2010 (birthplace of founder Juliette Gordon Low). In this photo, the girls appear in front of the Waving Girl Statue. The Waving Girl statue was made in honor of Florence Martus. It can be found on River Street.
Volunteer Spotlight: Girl Scout Troop 6219 Provides Dinner And Cookies To Novaco Families
Junior Girl Scout Troop 6219 wanted to volunteer in the community and found a perfect opportunity with NOVACO. After much brainstorming about how they could help, the girls decided to cook and serve a meal at a NOVACO Monday night Life Skills class. They read recipes, chopped vegetables and measured ingredients. While the client moms attended class, they entertained the children with various crafts. One young boy came up to a leader and asked if they were coming back next week!
Girl Scout Troop Worked on 'Food, Fibers and Farming' Badge
Girl Scout Junior Troop 3174 from Laurel, MD has been working on their ‘Food, Fibers and Farming' badge this summer. They have many vegetables and herbs growing in their 3' x 6' garden bed. The cucumbers and beans are growing up a trellis that the girls helped construct. This week they visited Gorman Organic Farm in Laurel where they learned about irrigation, bug and weed control, cycling of crops for nutrient replenishment, and composting. Farmer Lydia showed them the big refrigerator where the vegetables for the farm market and area restaurants are stored. The biggest hit of the evening was ‘putting away' the turkeys. The girls had to move very slowly so the turkeys wouldn't get scared as they were being herded into their cage.
Junior Troop traveled to New York
Girl Scout Junior Troop # 4664 (SU 21-11) traveled to New York to attend Good Morning America's concert series where they were in the front row in the park to see the Black Eyed Peas concert. After, they headed over to GSUSA office and visited with COO Jan Verhage.

Junior Troop Completed a Community Service Project
Girl Scout Junior Troop 40069 from Washington County, MD did a community service project, collecting 52 pounds of used and/or broken crayons and donating them to Smithsburg High School where students from their "life skills" program will recycle and distribute them to local preschools.

Brownie Troop Held Food-Drive
Girl Scout Brownie Troop 766 in the Olney/Brookeville area held a food-drive and donated the food to a local charity-Olney Help. Girls were excited to show off all their food they are donating. This helps our girls learn the idea of community service.
Girl Scouts Enjoyed 4th of July Parade
Girl Scout Troop 6695 was busy this summer. With Service Unit 43-1 they participated in a Forth of July Parade near Eastern Market, built a camp fire and roasted marshmallows at Watkins Park. Oh... and they also learned about snakes!
