Associations and Service Units

ASSOCIATIONS are the largest group within the GSCNC structure. At present, there are 23 Associations in the Maryland, District of Columbia and Northern Virginia areas. Associations, led by the Association Chair, play the critical role of providing Association level programming to support the growth of Girl Scouting in their area.

Please see Association Best Practices for tips and suggestions for Association programming.

SERVICE UNITS

The Service Unit provides the setting within which the primary services of a council take place, organizing troops/groups and providing direct services to girls and Girl Scout leaders.

Each Service Unit has a SERVICE UNIT MANAGER (SUM) who is accountable to the Field Director for developing and managing Girl Scouting in the Service Unit. The Service Unit Manager is the chief volunteer administrator for Girl Scouting in a Service Unit.
