  1. Who may attend GSCNC courses?
Courses are designed for adults serving in specific volunteer positions within GSCNC.
  2. Who teaches GSCNC courses?
Most classes are taught by volunteers who have either completed GSCNC trainings to become a trainer, hold instructor certification with a recognized organization (e.g. Red Cross, American Canoe Association) or have demonstrated qualifications in an area of specialized skill or expertise.
  3. Is there a cost?
There is no charge for most courses. If however, there is a course fee, it is noted in the course description.

You may occasionally see a modest fee to cover items such as food or craft supplies. In addition, there is a cost for all Health and Safety classes established in conjunction with the certifying organization, such as Red Cross.

When training is required to support troop activities, the girls may approve the use of troop funds to support the cost of the training for an adult.

  4. Do I need to register for all courses?
Yes! Registration is required. Register early, if possible, as some courses fill quickly.
  5. Do courses ever fill up?
Yes, they do. The facility, the type of course and the number of trainers available may limit class size. Once a class is full, individuals are placed a waitlist. Waitlisted participants are moved from the waitlist into the class, if a registered participant cancels.
  6. What if I can't attend after I have registered?
Please be sure to cancel registration. There are often waiting lists for courses, and others could attend in your place.
  7. Are courses ever cancelled?
Occasionally classes must be canceled due to weather, site problems, insufficient registration or other unforeseen circumstances. If schools near the course location are closed due to inclement weather, the course is automatically cancelled.
  8. What should I bring to my course?
Information concerning materials to bring is listed within the course description. Bring a bag lunch and beverage for classes, which extend over a meal hour. Some courses are held outdoors. Check the forecast and dress for the weather.
  9. May I bring my children to a course?
Training events cannot accommodate children, unless childcare is available. Courses will indicate the childcare option under "more" upon registration.
  10. Does GSCNC offer financial assistance?
A volunteer may apply for financial assistance to support her/his participation in training or events. Submit a Request for Training Assistance form to the Adult Volunteer Development department.
  11. Does GSCNC reimburse for First Aid classes taken in the community?
A volunteer may apply for reimbursement of up to $25 to cover the difference of taking a First Aid/CPR class in the community. Submit a receipt along with your Request for Training Assistance form to the Adult Volunteer Development department.
  12. May I request a course?
If you are interested in a specific course that is not available, please talk with your local volunteer or staff contact. They will work with volunteer trainers to fulfill the request. Securing sites for trainings is frequently a hurdle. Identifying or reserving a local site for training may help a trainer satisfy your request more quickly.
  13. I have a special need. Who should I contact?
We want training to be accessible to all our volunteers. Please indicate any special services you may need when you register, so that we have an opportunity to make the needed accommodations.
