Letterboxing

Our Letterboxing program is currently under construction. Please check back in the Fall for more information about future development of this program on GSCNC Camp sites.

The hobby of Letterboxing started in the United Kingdom but is invading the United States with over 22,000 boxes now hidden throughout the US. Letterboxing combines treasure hunting, art, problem solving and exploring. Letterboxes-typically a box with a stamp, stamp pad and logbook-are hidden in various locations with clues written and published so that others can find the box. Letterboxers have their own stamp-many are hand carved-and when the letterbox is found they put their stamp in the logbook that is in the box and stamp their logbook with the stamp from the box. Thus the logbook in the box track all those that found it and a personal logbook tracks all the boxes that have been found. The reward for finding the letterbox is getting a copy of the stamp image - which is then kept secret from others that may also be looking for the letterbox.

Letterboxing at Council Camps
A day site reservation must be made if going to one of the camps to letterbox.
Aquasco, Brighton Woods, Coles Trip, Crowell, and Potomac Woods currently have letterboxes hidden at them. Each camp has 7 council sponsored boxes that are hidden throughout the camp. Some camps also have boxes that were placed by troops and available for other troops to look for.

These boxes are only for Girl Scout Troops to find and are not public boxes.
