CampingLetterboxingOur Letterboxing program is currently under construction. Please check
back in the Fall for more information about future development of this
program on GSCNC Camp sites. The hobby of Letterboxing started in the United Kingdom but is invading the United States with over 22,000 boxes now hidden throughout the US. Letterboxing combines treasure hunting, art, problem solving and exploring. Letterboxes-typically a box with a stamp, stamp pad and logbook-are hidden in various locations with clues written and published so that others can find the box. Letterboxers have their own stamp-many are hand carved-and when the letterbox is found they put their stamp in the logbook that is in the box and stamp their logbook with the stamp from the box. Thus the logbook in the box track all those that found it and a personal logbook tracks all the boxes that have been found. The reward for finding the letterbox is getting a copy of the stamp image - which is then kept secret from others that may also be looking for the letterbox. Letterboxing at Council Camps Go to http://register.gscnc.org/camping for the clues to the letterboxes hidden at the camps. You will need the keyword to access the camping reservation site. You can contact Gustavo Martinez via email gmartinez@gscnc.org or phone 202-237-1670 ext. 253 for the access code. These boxes are only for Girl Scout Troops to find and are not public boxes. Follow the links to the left for more information about letterboxing.
