Letterboxing 101

Getting Started
To get started Letterboxing your troop or each girl in your troop will need to have a handmade stamp, logbook, ink pad or brush markers, pen or pencil, a compass (if required) and clues.

Stamp
Your troop or each girl will need to determine what image they want on their stamp - the image should mean something to the girl or the troop. The stamps can be made from a variety of materials from foam cut into shapes to erasers that are carved. For more information about carving your own stamp and where to get supplies see the Resources Page.

Logbook
Your logbook is where you will track which boxes you have found by the stamp imprints. The logbook can be per troop or each girl and can be a sketchbook or something you make in a troop meeting. It can be as simple or complex as you'd like, but it is best if the pages will lay flat when open and the paper has a smooth surface for best stamp quality.

Inkpad/Brush Markers
For all the boxes hidden at the camps you will need to bring your own inkpad or set of brush tip markers. You will want at least one inkpad so that you can stamp-in to the logbooks in the boxes that you find and so you can stamp your own logbook with the stamp from the box.

Pen or Pencil
This will be used to leave your troop number and date on the page with your troop's stamp(s).

Clues
If additional items are needed to find the letterboxes it will be noted in the clues for each of the camps. Go to http://register.gscnc.org/camping for the clues to the letterboxes hidden at the camps. You will need the keyword to access the camping reservation site.

These boxes are only for Girl Scout Troops to find and are not public boxes.
