Canoeing and Kayaking


Practice your paddling skills on the water at Camp Coles Trip, Camp Winona, Camp White Rock, or Camp Brighton Woods or reserve boats on trailers to take with you to other flatwater locations!

We are have a NEW reservation system for all High Adventure Activities.

Canoeing is available at Camp Coles Trip, Camp White Rock, Camp Winona and there are trailers available to rent to take to popular locations such as Lake Audubon or Lake Fairfax. In order for your troop to reserve canoes, you must have a canoe trained adult. You will receive a confirmation email upon confirmation of your reservation in order for it to be valid.

Kayaking is available at Camp Coles Trip, Camp White Rock, Camp Winona and there are trailers available to take to popular locations such as Brighton Dam. In order for troops to reserve kayaks, they will need to have a kayak-trained adult. You will receive a confirmation email upon confirmation of your reservation in order for it to be valid.

Trained adult to participant ratios for boating according to the Safety Checkpoints:
Flatwater Canoeing and Kayaking: 1 adult per 12 participants
Moving Water Canoeing: 1 adult per 8 participants
Moving Water Kayaking: 1 adult per 5 participants
Moving water certification is needed for any moving water canoe or kayak trips. 

Fall Canoe and Kayak trainings: Canoe Training will be held at Riley's Lock in Poolesville MD on September 28th. Kayak Trainings will be held on September 27th at Lake Audubon in Reston, VA and October 4th at Brighon Dam in Brookeville, MD. Our resource lists enable Troops without a trained adult to request someone to help work with their Troop.
