Girl Scouts Forever Green Community Action Project

Girl Scouts Forever Green Community Action Project engages, educates, and empowers girls to take the lead in developing and implementing sustainable initiatives to decrease the environmental footprints of their schools and communities.

Because of the work of Girl Scout Junior Troop 3377's 2008/2009 Community Action Project, the National Wildlife Federation recognized Churchill Road Elementary School in McLean, VA as a Certified Wildlife Habitat.

Girl Scouts Forever Green began in 2008 as troop projects only, but has expanded during this second year to encompass many green initiatives. For more information on specific parts of Girl Scouts Forever Green, please choose one of the following:

Troop Projects
These are the core of Forever Green. Using their leadership skills, girls should complete a project that implements some sort of sustainable, lasting change in their school.

Pepco/Girl Scout Lightbulb Challenge
As a council, we are challenging every girl in every troop in the entire council to change at least one incandescent light bulb to compact fluorescent (CFL) or light emitting diode (LED) between January 1 and April 1, 2010.

Linking Girls to the Land Eco-Expo
GSCNC's Earth Day Celebration which includes hands-on environmental activities, a river cleanup, and Forever Green Troop Project displays.

Troop Project Mentors
Are you an adult working in an environmental field? Are you interested in helping empower girls to "green" their schools? Consider being a Girl Scouts Forever Green troop project mentor.
