Congressional Aide

Celebrate 38 Years of Service on the Hill!
GSCNC combines service and citizenship in the annual Congressional Aide program, now entering its 38th year. Last year, 52 Girl Scouts were placed in 24 Capitol Hill offices, including those of Senators, Representatives and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

Congressional Aide Participants:
1. Spend one week of their summer in a 40-hour internship on or around Capitol Hill
2. Learn first-hand about our nation's political process
3. Help members of Congress and their staff with daily assignments behind the scenes
4. Earn federal hours to apply to various Girl Scout recognitions, including the Silver Trefoil

Assignments vary among offices, but typical tasks include answering phones, sorting mail, communicating with other offices, and welcoming guests to the office.

Due to the high demand for spaces in this program, Congressional Aide is an opportunity available exclusively to Girl Scout Ambassadors in GSCNC.

2012 Congressional Aide applications are due March 1, 2012 by 5pm.  Please send your application to: GSCNC, Attn: Congressional Aide, 4301 Connecticut Ave., NW Suite M-2, Washington D.C. 20008.  Please note that emailed and faxed applications will not be accepted.

A complete Congressional Aide Application includes:
  Application Packet
  Resume
  Health History Form
  Two Letters of Reference

Please note: All application materials should arrive in one mailing.  If this is not possible, you may send two mailings.  The first should include your application packet, resume, and Health History form.  The second should include both of your letters of reference.  Please do not send items individually, as this will increase the chance that they will become separated from the rest of your application.

All girls selected to serve as Congressional Aides must attend one mandatory orientation session in the spring, and are invited to attend an optional Congressional Aide workshop in the winter/spring.  Dates will be posted here as soon as they are confirmed.
