My Cookie Store Conference at National Zoo

Top 100 Girl Scouts Cookie Entrepreneurs Attend Sales Conference

WASHINGTON- The 2010 Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital (GSCNC) Cookie season was the highest Girl Scout Cookie sale in the nation. Over 4.7 million boxes of Girl Scout cookies were sold in the Greater Washington region between January and March 2010. This important program helps Girl Scouts earn money to support their Girl Scout activities, which includes community service projects, travel and maintenance of Girl Scout camps.

"The Girl Scout cookie program continues to be the best entrepreneurial business development program for girls," said Lidia Soto Harmon, Acting Executive Director of GSCNC. This Saturday, June 19th, the top 100 cookie sellers and their families will gather at the National Zoo to discuss some of the successful business strategies, provide input on future incentives and enjoy the afternoon at the zoo.

These 2010 Super Sellers represent 2.5 percent of the total cookie sale. These Girl Scouts each sold on average 835 boxes of Girl Scout cookies. At the conference three top sellers will share their marketing strategies with the girls. Ten year old Lalah Williams from Prince George's County met her goal by focusing on online marketing with the "Cookie Club." Fairfax County resident Kate York used cause marketing as her strategy. Her "Show you Care" project provided gifts of cookies to our US military overseas. Katherine Rensel, another 13 year old resident of Fairfax County used her entrepreneurial skills and made presentations to area businesses to exceed her sales goal.

In addition to hearing from top sellers, all the girls will provide their input into the 2011 cookie incentive program and develop marketing materials like sandwich boards, concession boxes and public service announcements.
