Fall Cookie Program Internship
The Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital, which serves 63,000 girls ages 5-17 from diverse cultural, religious and socio-economic backgrounds in the greater Washington area, is seeking qualified applicants for its Cookie Programming internship position. The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest entrepreneurship program for young women in the country - girls who participate in the annual cookie sale have the opportunity to learn and practice important business, marketing, and communication skills. The activity of selling cookies is directly related to the Girl Scouts’ purpose of helping all girls realize their full potential and become strong, confident, and resourceful citizens.
This internship is designed to provide practical, hands-on program planning and delivery experience to students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate-level degree in education, marketing, business, finance, communications, or other relevant discipline.
Cookie Programming Intern
Responsibilities
- Design and implement cookie-related programming for the GSCNC community:
- Update curriculum and develop new activities for GSCNC’s major cookie programming events, which include: Cookie Academy (for early elementary girls), Cookie College (for elementary and middle school girls) and Cookie Program Aide (for high school girls). These events are designed to teach girls useful life and business skills like planning, decision-making, goal-setting, team work and customer service with regards to the annual cookie sale.
- Coordinate space rental and logistics for the above events.
- Engage and train girl and adult volunteers to participate in each event to ensure a smoothly-run and exciting program experience for girls.
- Monitor registrations and communicate with girls and troop leaders about each event and coinciding materials.
- Serve as the point person for each cookie-related event (dates tentatively set for mid-November and early December).
- Create event guides that allow volunteers to offer similar programming in their areas.
- Research and assist in drafting proposals for grants and funding opportunities related to cookie programming.
- Attend ongoing program meetings and training sessions as scheduled
- Perform administrative tasks as needed
Schedule
- Late August to mid-December (must be available to attend the December program event dates)
- Flexible hours; GSCNC office hours are 9 am-5 pm.
- Minimum 15-20 hours/week commitment
Requirements
- Prior experience and enthusiasm for working with girls ages 5-17, families, and adults;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Must be available to attend all Cookie Programming events.
Recommended Qualifications
- Preference may be given to candidates with prior experience in curriculum development and event planning.
- Prior Girl Scouting experience is also beneficial.
Academic credit may be arranged in cooperation with a sponsoring college or university. A travel stipend is available.
