Dumbarton House

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL (Day program ONLY)
America the Beautiful takes History Detectives on an "I-Spy" journey through Dumbarton House in search of patriotic American symbols and clues about life during the Federal period. Suitable for 2nd-5th grade students. (Fulfills some requirements for: Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts "Wave the Flag," "Try-It" and "United We Stand" badge)

PERFORMING THE PAST (Day program ONLY)
Performing the Past turns kids into living history actors! Students dress up in period costumes and learn about life in the early 19th century. Suitable for 2nd-3rd grade students. (Fulfills some requirements for: Brownie Girl Scouts "Let's Pretend" Try-It)

HISTORICAL TOYMAKER (Day program or Overnight Adventure)
Become a history detective! Explore Dumbarton House to learn about the daily lives of children during the Federal period. History detectives will also discover and create their own 19th century toys and entertainments. Suitable for 4-5th grade students. (Fulfills some requirements for: Juniors Girl Scouts "Toymaker" badge.)

WRITE INTO THE PAST (Day program or Overnight Adventure)
Calling all history reporters and learn what it was like living in Dumbarton House 200 years ago! History reporters will use their writing skills by practicing with a quill pen and creating a historical story. Suitable for 2nd-3rd grade students. (Fulfills some requirements for: Brownies Girl Scouts "Write Away" badge.)

TROOP'S OWN TIME
Schedule a program that fits your schedule! Choose a Day or Overnight Adventure program that fits your group's schedule. Smaller groups are encouraged to connect with other groups to share the minimum group charge. Dumbarton House will work with your schedule, but requires four weeks' notice for Day programs and up to two months notice for Overnight Adventures.

Day Programs: Each program includes an interactive tour of the Museum, craft activities and workshop, snack of cookies and juice, and a Dumbarton House participation patch. Programs last 2 hours. Minimum charge $55 for up to 5 Scouts and 1 adult; $10 per additional child, $5 per additional adult. Maximum 35 Scouts per program. All programs provide a snack; please notify staff of any food allergies. One adult chaperone required for every 5-10 students.

Overnight Adventure Programs: Overnight Adventures are offered weekend nights from 7:30 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the following day. Each program includes an interactive tour of Museum, craft activities and workshop, an evening snack, light breakfast, and a Dumbarton House participation patch. Minimum charge is $624 for up to 20 Scouts and 2 adults; $30 per additional child, $12 per additional adult. Maximum 35 Scouts per program. One adult chaperone required for every 5-10 students. Bring a sleeping bag, pillow, and get ready for a historical journey!

General Program Information

  • Registrations should be made at least 1 month prior to program date.
  • All programs provide a snack; please notify staff of any food allergies. 
  • The Museum’s programs are available to all Scouts as the hands-on programs are developed to connect with all learning styles.  Given enough notification, Museum Educators can adapt programs to fit the specific needs of your Scouts. The Museum is wheelchair accessible. 
  • Cancellations must be made 14 days prior to scheduled program date. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 14 days prior to scheduled program.
