Dumbarton House Museum

Step back in time at Dumbarton House during one of our Scout programs!  Bring your troop to this historic Georgetown home to learn about the early history of Washington, D.C. and participate in hands-on activities to earn portion of their badges/journeys.  All scouts will receive a Dumbarton House patch!

We offer both prescheduled programs (see dates below or visit our website) and private overnight and day programs. Scout programs must be registered for in advance, please no day of walk-ins. A $50 deposit is due at time of registering to hold your troop’s spot. Payment is due in full two weeks before the program,

Get Moving Journey Workshop      

Saturday, January 24; February 21, March 28, April 25 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Get moving as you journey through Dumbarton House!  During four 2 hour long programs, Scouts explore Dumbarton House and its grounds to learn more about how energy was used in the past, how it is used today, and how it can be used more wisely in the future.  Scouts conduct an energy audit of the house and create their own Innovate project.  The program concludes with a special ceremony where Scouts present their projects to family and friends.  Snacks and art projects are included in each of the four sessions.

Girl Scouts will earn the Energize, Investigate, and Innovate leadership Awards

$60/Girl Scout, $20/adult for 4 – 2 hour sessions

 

Draw It! Junior Overnight Badge Adventure

Friday, January 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Become an artist at Dumbarton House! Scouts journey through the historic home in search of 200 year old works of art.  Armed with artistic inspiration, Scouts create their own artwork and host a special Art Show featuring their completed work!

Girl Scouts will complete steps, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the Drawing Junior Badge.

$30/Girl Scout, $12/Adult

 

Paint It!  Brownie Badge Day

Saturday, January 24 from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

Become an artist at Dumbarton House!  Brownies go on a scavenger hunt through the historic home in search of 200 year old paintings.  Armed with artistic inspiration, Brownies create their own artwork to take home!

Brownies will complete steps 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the Painting Badge.

$15/Girl Scout, $5/Adult

 

Playing the Past. Brownie & Juniors Overnight Badge Adventure                                             

Friday, February 20 at 7:30 p.m.

Party into the past at Dumbarton House!  Scouts explore the historic house to learn about games and entertainment from early America.  After their tour, Scouts enjoy an early American tea party, make a special doll to take home, play early American games, and learn to write with a quill pen.

Brownies will complete steps, 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the Making Games Badge. 

Juniors will complete steps, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the Playing the Past Badge. 

$30/Girl Scout, $12/Adult

O, say can you see! – Explore Dumbarton House and discover American symbols important to our community and our nation.  Brownies will create patriotic hats, sing patriotic songs, and learn to write with a quill pen. 

Brownies will complete steps 1, 2, and 4 of the Celebrating Community Badge.

$30/Girl Scout, $12/Adult

Private Programs

Your troop can schedule a private event for any of the above programs year round. Girl Scout Overnight Adventures are offered weekend nights from 7:30 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the following day. Private overnight programs may be scheduled for a minimum cost of $624 per overnight for up to 20 scouts and 2 adults.  Each additional Scout, $30; each additional Adult, $12. (maximum of 35 Scouts). Girl Scout Day Programs Day programs are offered Tuesday - Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Programs last about 2 hours.  Requests for other times may be accommodated. Private day programs may be scheduled for a minimum cost of $80 per program, for up to 5 Scouts and 1 adult.  Each additional Scout, $15; each additional Adult, $5. (maximum of 35 Scouts) Get Moving! includes 4 separate 2-hour sessions. Sessions can be scheduled Tuesday - Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Cost is $60/Scout and $20/Adult for all four sessions.
