"Let's Read. Let's Move." seeks to combat childhood obesity and summer reading loss by engaging youth in summer reading and physical activity, as well as by providing access to healthy, affordable food.
This initiative is an Administration-wide effort led by the Corporation for National and Community Service in collaboration with First Lady Michelle Obama and five federal agencies.

Journey Fun Fact of the Week
Did you know?
One quarter of all car trips in the U.S. are shorter than a mile. If Americans spent 30 minutes walking or cycling instead of taking the car for short trips, they'd take a big bite out of greenhouse gas emissions and in the process also shed more than 3 billion pounds! According to researchers, for every minute you walk, you add about three minutes to your lifespan.

Leaders, don't forget to purchase the leader guide, which includes detailed sample sessions to help you lead girls through the Journeys. Journeys are a core piece of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, and help girls Discover, Connect and Take Action. For girls working on their Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards, Journeys are the prerequisites to beginning an award project.

The Healthy Media for Youth Act (H.R. 4925) is a bipartisan bill that promotes healthy media messages about girls and women for the benefit of all youth. Read more about their experience here: Girl Scouts Advocate for Healthy Media - Blog
YOU can be an advocate too. The Grow Strong Teen kit, focused on healthy living, media literacy and self-esteem, offers great tips on how to get informed and then have your voice be heard! To check out a Grow Strong Teen kit, put in a request at: http://www.gscnc.org/kits.html
