Day-and-Evening-camp

Summer Day & Evening Camps

Even with an action-packed summer planned, there's a summer day and evening camp that'll let girls try something new, while going home each night.

From outdoor skills to STEM, crafts and nature exploration, we have camps for every interest and age level sprinkled across our region. Each camp is unique, and run exclusively by a dedicated team of specially trained volunteers who work year-round to make these enriching opportunities possible.

Day and evening camp programs encourage girls to explore the world around them, challenge themselves, and build self-esteem while having a blast at camp. At camp, girls learn songs, play games, make arts and crafts, gain outdoor skills and work towards badges, all while being encouraged to feel comfortable and be their amazing selves. Most programs occur outdoors and encourage girls to participate in totally awesome activities like nature hikes, outdoor skills, team building exercises, high adventure, and more. Some programs even offer optional overnights and field trips too!

No matter which camp you choose, you’re sure to have your best summer yet.

Payment

When registering for camp, be prepared to pay the fee in full. Payment plans for day and evening camps are not available. Camp fees vary by camp and by program. The differences in the fees represent the wide variety of programs available across the region. Financial assistance is available, click here for more information.

Volunteer at Camp

You’ll have a lifelong impact on girls, develop your own leadership expertise, gain new skills and tools, and connect with fellow volunteers. There’s no cost to volunteer, and most camps guarantee entry for campers of full-time volunteers; other camps may offer a reduce rate for registration.

Roles include …

  • Unit Counselor: Guide a group of campers through pre-planned activities with the help of another counselor or a teen mentor.
  • Program Volunteer: Teach a skill, or plan and lead a special activity like crafts, gardening, or sports, etc.
  • Health Supervisor: Medical professionals needed! Provide first aid and manage camper and staff safety.

Each camp handles volunteer registration differently. If you are interested in volunteering at a day or evening camp, please contact the camp directly using the volunteer contact listed under each camp’s description.

Who Can Attend Camp?

Most of our Day and Evening Camps are open to girls completing grades K-12. Check the individual camp description for specific grade requirements.

We welcome non-Girl Scouts to attend camp. Any girl who is not a current member is welcome to attend camp, but they must register and become a Girl Scouts Nation's Capital member. The annual registration fee is $25. You must register 24 hours before selecting a camp, through the online events registration site, eBiz. To register as a member, click here. If you have questions about the registration process, have problems, or need to update information please email registration@gscnc.org.

Boys are eligible only at certain camps and must be children of volunteer staff.  Ages vary with each camp. Preschool age children are only eligible at certain camps and must be children of volunteer staff.

Camps can always use adult volunteers too! Our day and evening camps are run by qualified, enthusiastic, and compassionate volunteer camp directors. Parents, guardians, Girl Scout troop leaders and other qualified adults also frequently volunteer their time to help girls have a great camp experience. Each camp handles volunteer registration differently. If you are interested in volunteering at a day or evening camp, please contact the camp directly using the volunteer contact listed under each camp’s description.

High Adventure

High adventure opportunities vary based on the camp, unit program and the camper’s current grade. High adventure activities can be canceled due to weather or other conditions. High adventure opportunities are listed under each camp description.

How to Register for Camp

Remember, camp sessions fill up very quickly. We receive a large number of phone calls and emails on opening days of registration. Please check your account information at least 1 week prior to the opening day to test your account.

Log into your eBiz account here.

  • If you have previously registered your camper for camp or for a Council event, your login has remained the same.
  • If you have trouble accessing your account or cannot remember your log in information, please email registration@gscnc.org for assistance.
  • If your contact information is incorrect in eBiz, email registration@gscnc.org with your updated information.
  • If your camper’s Girl Scout membership is with a different council, please email registration@gscnc.org for further instructions.

When registration opens, log in and click Activities to find quick access to all of our summer’s camp offerings.

Remember: Campers must register for the program units based on the grade they will be completing this year (2017-2018).

Placement

Placement is not automatic for all camps. Some camps place campers based on first come, first served, while others use a lottery system. See the specific camp’s description for more details. Most camps guarantee entry for campers of full-time volunteers – consider volunteering!

Lottery – How it Works

Campers registering for a lottery camp must pay in full at the time of registration. Paying for, and completing registration, does not guarantee the camper will be placed into the lottery. If the camper is not selected through the lottery, a full refund will be issued only after the camper turns down the wait list. For specific dates and fees for lottery camps, please consult the individual camp’s webpage.

Camp Confirmations

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email or letter. This information comes from the camp directly, so arrival dates can vary depending on lottery deadlines, closing dates and placement dates. The contact information is based on your eBiz account. Make sure that your email and address up to date when you log in to eBiz. If anything needs to be updated, contact registration@gscnc.org. Please refer to each camp’s description or website for more information.

Before and After Care

Camps do not offer before or after care (extended hours).

Health Forms

Registration for day and evening camps requires parents to submit a health form. Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital will send a unique link to an online health form for each camper. Links will be sent in early Spring and health form deadlines are set by each camp. If you are registered for more than one day or evening camp, you will only have to submit one health form for each camper. The deadline will be based on the earliest deadline set by the camps that your camper will be attending.

Medications at Camp

If your camper takes routine medication or needs emergency medication while at camp, you must complete additional forms. Any medication, prescription and over the counter, will not be administered at camp without the forms.

For all medications, prescription and over the counter, you must submit the Medication Authorization form. And, if your camper requires emergency medication or specialized healthcare including the use of an Epi-pen, insulin, and/or an inhaler, you must submit the Specialized Healthcare form. These forms are mandatory only if you anticipate sending medication to camp with your camper. The forms can be found on this page beginning in March.

Any medication brought to camp must be in the original container, and prescription medication must include the pharmacy label.

With the exception of emergencies, all campers must self-administer all medications with the guidance and supervision of trained health staff in the camp health center. Camps cannot administer medications that are not prescribed to the camper, or over the counter medications not included on the Medication Administration form.

Links to additional health forms will be included in the online health form.

Girls with Special Needs

Girl Scout camp is for all girls. If your camper has medical, physical, developmental, social, or other special needs we encourage you to work with us to find her the most appropriate camp program. Please contact Denise Viau, Camping Services Manager, at dviau@gscnc.org or 202.274.3308, before registering your camper to discuss options and to ensure that your camper finds the camp and program that best suits her needs.

Transportation

Bus transportation is available at some camps. The chart below shows the possible stops. Stops are subject to change based on registration and availability of volunteer bus stop monitors. Contact individual camps with questions on bus stops. For camps that do not offer transportation, arranging a carpool with fellow parents is strongly recommended.

Photo Identification Policy

To help ensure camper’s safety, each camp checks photo identification for all adults picking up at camp. Campers will only be released to individuals listed on the camper’s authorized pick up list. All adults’ names will be cross-referenced with their photo identification. Please come prepared to show identification when picking up your camper and be patient, particularly on the first day of camp.

Refund and Cancelation Policy

Refund policies and deadlines vary from camp to camp. Please consult the individual camp’s description for details on the refund policy. Except in extenuating circumstances, Council will not override a camp’s refund policy.

Refunds for Girl Scout membership will not be issued.

Girl Scouts Nation's Capital reserves the right to cancel any program listed due to insufficient enrollment or other extenuating circumstances. Alternate programs or refunds will be offered.

Financial Assistance

Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital strives to make camp available to all girls regardless of their family’s economic situation. Financial assistance is available for one day or evening camp per camper per summer.

The financial assistance application will be available here by January 1.

Requests must be submitted at least ten business days prior to the date you would like to apply for camp. Financial assistance applications are reviewed on a rolling basis every ten business days. You will receive an email only after the request is reviewed and approved. The email will contain a code to use when applying for camp. If you have more than one camper, please complete a separate request for each child. All application information is confidential.

Camp Behavior

Providing a safe, healthy and positive experience for every camper is top priority. At camp, we expect campers will act in accordance to the Girl Scout law and be “considerate and caring” of others as well as “be a sister to every Girl Scout.” Please encourage your campers to help create a safe camp community by speaking to staff if they see unacceptable behavior among other campers in their unit, cabins or during activities. The staff are there to ensure every camper is having a safe and fun experience at camp.

The director and camp staff will do everything possible to help campers adjust to camp life.  However, the Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital reserves the right to send home from camp any girl who consistently exhibits unsuitable behavior or endangers the camp community, or whose actions towards others are unacceptable. The camper’s parent/guardian is responsible for picking her up from camp in these cases. There will be no refund.

Leadership for Teens

Teen Girl Scouts are encouraged to participate in leadership roles at day and evening camp. Many camps offer Aide in Training (AIT) and/or Aide programs which give Girl Scout Cadettes through Ambassadors the opportunity to learn valuable, hands-on leadership skills as well as earn volunteer hours towards Girl Scout Journeys, badges or higher awards. Camp Aides and AITs must be available for all required trainings. Trainings and training dates vary from camp to camp. Please refer to each camp’s description or website for more information.
