Become a Volunteer

Be the role model she'll always remember.

As a volunteer, you’ll introduce girls to new experiences that show them they’re capable of more than they ever imagined. Be the troop leader that supports her every week.  Mentor a Girl Scout troop during cookie season and help them reach their goals. Or work with other adults to provide the kind of behind-the-scenes support that makes it possible for Girl Scouts to make amazing new memories. No matter the amount of time you give, volunteering with Girl Scouts is flexible and fun!

Description of troop volunteer positions:

Troop Leader

Encourage girls to build confidence while trying new things. Required to take: Basic Leadership and Program Level training. See a full position description here.

Troop Money Manager

Help open and manage the troop checking account while engaging girls in goal setting and budgeting. This position requires training from the service unit money manager. See a full position description here.

Troop Cookie Manager

Help guide the next generation of financially savvy business leaders, and helps girls set and achieve goals through the Cookie Program. This position requires training from the service unit cookie manager. See a full position description here

Troop Fall Product Sales Manager

Help your troop start out with the funds needed to do fun things. This position receives training from the Product Sales Department. See a full position description here.

Troop First Aider

Support your troop by taking Council-sponsored training, or bringing your credentials from another organization. This position requires current first aid and CPR certification. See Volunteer Essentials, Chapter 9 for more information on Troop First Aiders.

Troop Camp Qualified Adult

Adventure seekers wanted. Take a Basic Cookout class to help girls cook outside, or take the Cookout & Campout class to help girls plan for and enjoy overnight camping. This position requires a one-time training to qualify. Already have camp training from another youth-serving organization or certified through another council or the Boy Scouts? Complete this assessment to show competency to opt out of the training and become qualified with Girl Scouts.

Troop SHARE Leader

This position ensures all families have the opportunity to donate through our annual giving campaign. In the SHARE campaign, troops help achieve a service unit goal through 75% individual gifts and 25% from other methods. This position requires training from the Development Department.

Short-term Volunteer Opportunities 

Day Event Volunteer

Want to help out at Girl Scout events around the Council? As a day event volunteer, you can volunteer at events planned by Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital doing everything from checking girls in to mentoring them throughout the day, to leading workshops! You can also contact for more information.

Program Delivery Specialist

Passionate and knowledgeable about STEM, career development, arts and crafts, or any number of other subjects and want to work with local troops in your area to help girls earn badges or learn new skills?
