Encuentro de Chicas Latinas
Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital is celebrating ten years of presenting Encuentro de Chicas Latinas de Las Girl Scouts, an annual conference for Latina girls. Since its launch at Catholic University in 2005, the conference has reached over 1,200 girls in the Greater Washington Region. Encuentro inspires girls, in grades 6-12, to recognize their abilities and become active leaders in their schools and communities. Many Encuentro alumnae have gone on to attend college, to run their own business, and even work on the Hill for a member of Congress.
Girl Scouts is dedicated to improving opportunities for Latinas. To give Latina girls greater exposure to higher education, the conference is held at a local university, and includes a college tour and sessions on college preparedness. Other activities include interactive leadership workshops, STEM sessions, cultural arts, mentoring sessions with accomplished Latinas and an awards dinner. The conference also provides the girls with the opportunity to network with other Latina girls striving to be positive influencers in their community.
Latina girls in grades 6-12 are invited to attend this free leadership conference. Girls do not have to be members of Girl Scouts to attend.
