Who will be at camp to give medical care?

  • A camp First Aider or other licensed professional administers to the health needs of campers and staff. Arrangements are made with a physician, hospital, and local rescue squad for complete emergency care. The First Aid station is staffed with a primary First Aider, RN, LPN, Paramedic, OR EMT.

What if my child has special medical needs or concerns?

  • We want to care for your child appropriately so they will have a comfortable, safe time at camp. If your daughter has any special needs or required care at camp (food allergies, medical conditions, special health concerns, etc.) please provide us with complete information on the health form.  In addition, please contact your Camp Director prior to camp to discuss special needs. While your child is at camp, feel free to contact the Camp Director at any time.

What if my daughter becomes ill?

  • If your daughter becomes ill, you will be contacted by the Camp Director or person responsible for health care at camp.

What should I do if my daughter has medication?

  • ALL medications must be turned when your child arrives at camp. Please do not put medications in your campers lunch or personal belongings.
  • All medications will be dispensed from the First Aid Station. Exceptions are for those medications needed for life-threatening conditions (i.e. Epi-pen, asthma inhaler, diabetic supplies, etc.)
  • Campers may keep chapstick, bug repellant and sun screen with them. However, sunscreen and bug repellant may not be shared with other campers. It must be labeled and self applied by the camper. Sunscreen and bug repellant should be accompanied with instructions for its use (when and how often to apply).

What if my daughter gets a headache, is there non-prescription medication at camp?

  • According to GSCNC Health and Safety standards and local state health regulations, camps are not permitted to keep nonprescription medication (Tylenol, benadryl, Advil, etc.) at camp for the use of campers.
  • ALL Medication, Prescription AND NON-Prescription Medication, must be sent to camp with the camper and have permission from a physician for its use.

What should I do if my daughter if there has been a recent health condition since I filled out the health form?

  • You will need to update the Camp Director regarding any recent health condition(s) and appropriate medication or treatment. This information must be provided in the form of a signed statement given to a staff member at the bus stop or camp check in.

What do I need to know about the HEALTH FORM?

  • Campers will not be admitted without a completed Health Form signed by a parent/guardian. Please give accurate and timely information about your daughter's general health.
  • You must use the form provided by GSCNC. Substitutes will not be accepted.
  • Immunizations must be listed by month, day, and year for primary doses.
  • Make a copy of the Health Form prior to mailing the form to the Camp Director. Health Forms will not be returned after the start of camp.
  • Our Health Form also has a section for administering medicines at camp.  All medications must be listed AND this form must be signed by a parent/guardian. If the form includes over the counter medication the form MUST be signed by a physician. Please read carefully and follow directions.
  • Our Health Form also has a section to complete if your daughter has severe allergies that may require an Epi-pen, and a section if she has asthma and will be bringing an inhaler, nebulizer, or other medical equipment.

Can I put a few of my daughter's pills in a baggie?

  • NO. All prescription medications must be brought to camp in their original containers, with the doctor's instructions. DO NOT pre-dispense, place in a daily pill holder, wrap in other materials, or ask us to dispense by other than doctor's orders. Do not bring expired medications. Medications not in original containers will not be held or dispensed at camp.

What do I need to do if I decided to send over the counter medications to camp with my daughter?

  • Physician must sign the Camper Medication Administration portion of the Health Form authorizing all over-the-counter medications (i.e.  Dramamine, vitamins, Pamprin, etc). Campers may keep their chapstick and sun screen with them, everything else must be turned over to Camp Nurse. As noted earlier, sunscreen may not be shared with other campers. It must be labeled and self applied by the camper. Sunscreen should be accompanied with instructions for its use (when and how often to apply).
  • Please indicate if medicine is taken daily or as needed. You must be specific with any variations or conditions associated with "as needed"

Where is medication kept?

  • All medicines are kept in the First Aid Station and administered under medical supervision, with the exception of emergency medications. Medications like these (Epi-pens, inhalers, etc.) will be kept in the unit or with the camper.

What if I have a medication permission form from my daughter's school, can I use that?

  • If a child has a medication permission form from school, a letter from a physician or a medication permission form from another camp, we can accept this as long as...
    • The Form is still valid (some school forms expire)
    • It includes all the pertinent information needed...
