Put your boots on and get ready for a fun adventure in the woods of Harpers Ferry, WV. Explore 1400 acres with various overlooks, water falls, many types of flora and fauna, and get great exercise. Whether you're an avid hiker or would just like to try something new, join the OEC staff for a fun day of exploration and discovery.

Ecology at Your Fingertips
Program Level: T (C, S, A)
Have you ever seen a picture of your house 30 years ago? The landscape probably looks very different. Are there more or less trees? Have you ever wandered the impact you leave on the wilderness? Or did you know how important that swamp near the park was? Students will have these questions and many more answered at the OEC; learning about wetland, wildlife, and forest ecology in a fun and engaging way.

Harper's Ferry Team-Building Scavenger Hunt
Program Level: T (C, S, A)
Students will be dropped off in Harpers Ferry Historical National Park for an adventure in unraveling the past. The students will be split into groups, and at that point, they will embark on a team-building scavenger hunt that will not only teach them about the social impacts Harpers Ferry has had in our country, but will also be an avenue for team-building activities where the youth will learn how to cooperate and work together in order to move on through the days endeavor, as well as in life.

Keepin' It Green
Program Level: T (C, S, A)
With the price of gas soaring, many people are searching for alternative forms of energy to power their cars, homes, lawn mowers, etc. The Outdoor Education Center offers a wide array of alternative energy sources. From composting toilets and human powered lights and radios to solar panels and wind turbines, the facility provides a hands on experience that will leave you with a better understanding of greener energy sources.

On Belay: Intro to Rock Climbing
Program Level: T (C, S, A)
Students start at the Outdoor Education Center in Harpers Ferry, WV where they will begin their hike to Crescent Rocks. There, staff will teach the students the basics of rock climbing, including: safety, communication and terms, basic techniques, and set up. They will then put their new knowledge to use and climb the face of the rock.

Pack it In, Pack it Out: Backpacking Trip
Program Level: T (C, S, A)
Enjoy the great outdoors, with everything you need resting on your shoulders. Students will learn basic wilderness survival skills as well as outdoor ethics, Leave No Trace - "Pack it in, Pack it out". The hike will challenge the students physically and mentally, but they will leave the trip with a sense of strength and accomplishment.

Paddle Forward: Intro to Canoeing
Program Level: T (C, S, A)
Have you ever driven by a river to see people paddling through the rapids? Have you ever wondered how they do that? Well here's your chance to get a taste, and learn the fundamentals to canoeing. Staff will take you on a day long paddle to get hands on experience of the basics behind paddling and reading a river. Students will gain knowledge in understanding the river, which will further help them to explore other water sports.

Ridin' The Trails
Program Level: T (C, S, A)
Get a breath of fresh air and adrenaline pumping work out via the exciting sport of mountain biking. The Outdoor Education Center offers 100 acres of trails ready to be explored. Whether you would like a peaceful trip through the rolling foots hills, or a challenging ride through the Appalachian Mountains, our facility offers a fun ride for all experience levels.

Star Gazers
Program Level: T (C, S, A)
Have you ever found yourself staring into the vast universe in amazement and curiosity? Take a night hike to a wide open field, or stay close to the cabins and discover what the universe has to offer in the beautiful clear night sky of the Outdoor Education Center. The facility provides an impressive telescope to view some of the furthest and most extraordinary display of stars, planets, comets, and more!

Teambuilding Adventure (Challenge Course)
Program Level: T (C, S, A)
Teamwork is one of the most important life skills that often gets overlooked. The Outdoor Education Center offers various engaging, hands on activities to improve communication, cooperation, and collaborative skills. Throughout the morning students will work together to solve puzzles and conquer obstacles working together as a group. In the afternoon, students will use these skills to conquer some of their fears on the high ropes course, consisting of various ladders, climbing ropes, and wires with the culmination being the zip line. Mentally and physically challenging, the high and low ropes courses will strengthen both body and mind.

What's The Buzz About
Program Level: T (C, S, A)
Students will come to the Outdoor Education Center, located in Harpers Ferry, WV to learn about the science of bee keeping. Students will gain an understanding of how to care for bees, handling them, as well as the ecological importance of bees.

Yoga Hika
Program Level: T (C, S, A)
Join our staff to discover the balance of your physical and mental being. Just a short walk from the Appalachian Trail, this yoga session will leave you walking taller and feeling stronger. Whether you need a stress reliever or an invigorating work out, yoga is a great form of exercise that promotes a healthy lifestyle.
