Scholarships Graduating Seniors: The Elks National Foundation has just announced their Most Valuable Student Scholarships ( to replace their former Elks Gold Award Scholarships) A total of 500 scholarships will be awarded. Top prizes will be two $60,000, two $40,000, and two $20,000 scholarships. Runners-up will receive $4,000 scholarships awarded over a four-year period. High school seniors who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply. Males and females compete separately and judging is based on scholarship, leadership and financial need. The GSCNC - Sarah and Lawrence Phillips Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarship Fund High school seniors who have earned their Girl Scout Gold Award are eligible for one of ten $1,000 educational scholarships awarded by GSCNC. A Gold Award Scholarship Selection Committee, comprised of local businesswomen, reviews the written applications and identifies semifinalists to be interviewed in person at the council office. Based on the interviews, committee members select the ten finalists, with equal representation from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, and one finalist selected at-large. Semifinalists who are not selected to receive a scholarship each receive a $100 savings bond. Sarah and Lawrence Phillips, long-time Girl Scout volunteers, have provided GSCNC with a generous gift to support the Gold Award Scholarship Program. Download more information and application here. (PDF) Or Zipped Word Document here. Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program recognizes students in grades 5-12 who have demonstrated exemplary community service. Local Honorees are judged at the state level and 102 State Honorees from the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, will be named in February 2007. Each State Honoree will receive $1,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, DC, (May 5-8, 2007) with one parent or guardian. While in Washington DC, 10 National Honorees will be chosen. Each of the 10 National Honorees receives an additional $5,000, a gold medallion, and a crystal trophy for his or her school. Registration deadline for this year has passed. College of Engineering, Architecture and Computer Sciences (CEACS)
will give award scholarships to any Gold Award Girl Scout majoring in
any of 4 year engineering field programs or 5 year architecture programs.
Girls must qualify for admission at Howard University and must receive
their Gold Award by July 1 of their year of entry. Trinity University Scholarships offered exclusively to girls and troop leaders of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital.
