2008 Congressional Aide Program

GSCNC combines service and citizenship in the annual Congressional Aide program, now entering its 33nd year. Last year, 101 Girl Scouts were placed in the Capitol Hill offices of four Senators and 33 Representatives.

This program provides:
1. a great opportunity for our Girl Scouts to learn first-hand about our nation’s political process
2. A Chance to help members of Congress and their staff with daily assignments behind the scenes.
3. The chance for girls to experience the professional world
4. A unique experience to their college applications and job resumes
5. Earn federal hours that will apply to various Girl Scout recognitions.

Assignments vary among offices, but typical tasks include answering phones, sorting mail, communicating with other offices, and welcoming guests into the assigned office.

2008 Congressional Aide Weeks:
Week 1: June 23-27
Week 2: June 30- July 4 (offices are closed July 4th)
Week 3: July 7- 11
Week 4: July 14-18
Week 5: July 21-25
Week 6: July 28-August 1
Week 7: August 4-8
Week 8: August 11-15
Week 9: August 18-22
Week 10: August 25-29

Congressional Aide application

All applicants must attend one mandatory orientation session at Council's Main Office: 4301 Connecticut Ave, NW. Dates for orientation are:
Sunday, April 6 from 1pm-2pm
Tuesday, April 8 from 7pm-8pm
Saturday, April 12 from 2-3pm
