Girl Scout Cookies Go On Sale Today

Introducing a brand new cookie -Thank You Berry Munch

WASHINGTON- Girl Scout Cookies go on sale in the Greater Washington Region on January 4th through March 28, 2010. This year, a brand new cookie has been added to the line-up. Introducing Thank You Berry Munch -a cookie with real premium cranberries and sweetened by white chocolate chips. Thank You Berry Munch gives Girl Scouts a delicious way to say thank you.

The Girl Scout Cookie program is the largest girl-led business, which develops leadership and entrepreneurial skills in girls. The program focuses on five essential skills: goal-setting, decision-making, money management, people skills and business ethics. According to Lidia Soto-Harmon, Deputy Executive Director of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital,  "When people buy Girl Scout cookies, they are buying a lot more than a box of cookies - they are investing in the great work that Girl Scouts are doing in their community and helping us build tomorrow's leaders."

All purchases support Girl Scouts in the Greater Washington Region in twenty-five counties in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. Girl Scouts use the proceeds from their cookie sales to fund important community service projects, troop activities and educational trips. The Cookie program also helps the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital maintain our nine camp properties, provide much needed financial assistance, and develop innovative programming for girls.

In 2010 Girl Scouts of the Nation's Capital will offer eight varieties of Girl Scout Cookies:

  • Thank You Berry Munch-real cranberries and white chocolate chips
  • Thin Mints-Wafer cookie covered in chocolate made with natural peppermint
  • Samoas-Coconut, chocolate and caramel cookie
  • Tagalongs-Creamy peanut butter vanilla cookie covered in chocolate
  • Trefoils-Shortbread cookie
  • Do-Si-Do-Creamy peanut butter sandwiched between crisp oatmeal cookies
  • Lemon Chalets-Lemon cream cookie
