Volunteer Development Specialist

REPORTS TO:          Manager, Adult Volunteer Development

PRIMARY AREAS OF WORK: 

Under general supervision, the Volunteer Development Specialist is responsible for duties relating to the development and supervision of volunteers and to the adult education requirements of the Council membership.  This position provides leadership and support to place, train, and recognize adult volunteers.  Specialists develop curricula, resources and help guide the direction of council-wide task groups and volunteer committees.

SPECIFIC DUTIES: 
Facilitate change management sessions with adult volunteers as Girl Scouts nationwide standardize trainings and ensure the highest quality of adult leadership.

Coordinates training activities within an assigned geographic area by managing volunteers, online registration, and by offering trainings.

Appoints volunteer training managers to maintain training activities.  Consults with volunteer leadership on volunteer management issues and reassignment needs.  

In partnership with volunteers and staff, the specialist is responsible for developing and/or updating trainings either for in-person courses or for online training.

Meets regularly with volunteer trainers to provide information on council and GSUSA guidelines, to problem-solve and to facilitate planning and implementation of conferences and special training events.

Participates on departmental and council task groups and committees, and serves as a department representative in meetings to promote and advise on volunteer development issues.

Performs other related duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience
Facilitation, training or education background preferred
Understanding of organizational development and group dynamics a plus
Experience working with volunteers helpful
Excellent written and verbal communications skills needed.
Demonstrated ability to prepare and present information.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task
Must be able to maintain a flexible work schedule consisting of evening and weekend meetings.
Must have access to an automobile for travel within the council.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Preference may be given to candidates with experience in Girl Scouting, volunteer management, online courses, and/or adult education.
