******************************************************* GSCNC HAPPENINGSGirl Scout Week in Fairfax County March 14, 2008 The Board of Supervisors designated March 9-15 as Girl Scout Week in Fairfax County. Currently, there are more than 15,000 registered Girl Scouts in Fairfax County. These young ladies perform a wide range of community service projects to make life better for older adults, children who are hospitalized or in foster care, as well as others who may need a helping hand. The presentations were organized by Penelope (Penny) Gross, who is the Fairfax County Supervisor for the Mason District. (Click photo to see enlarged.) Real Estate Company Supports Girl Scouts March 7, 2008 Blake Real Estate recently donated $14,000 to GSCNC by purchasing cookies from Alison Silverstein of Troop 1855 of Kensington, MD. Alison is the daughter of the company's Vice President, Don Silverstein. Since 2001, Blake has purchased over 24,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies for distribution to its office tenants. The Girl Scouts have received over $78,000 from Blake to date. “We are so pleased to be able to support the Girl Scouts of the Nation’s Capital,” said David Bender, President of Blake Real Estate. “The Girl Scouts do so much to help mold excellent and productive citizens, as well as support other worthwhile charities.” (Click photo to see enlarged.) Cookies to Marines February 20, 2008 Members of Girl Scout Troop 5324 of Colvin Run Elementary School was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the U. S. Marine Corps for cookies the troop sent the soldiers in Marine Heavy Helicopter Squardron 632, serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. (Click photo to see enlarged.)
