Help your girls figure out what kinds of birds they see at their home feeders, at camp, and on hikes. This workshop will provide activity ideas to get your troops interested in birds and introduce basic bird identification techniques.

We'll focus on the nuts and bolts of how to make a museum field trip successful and fun for both you and your girls. Letterboxing combines art, treasure hunting, problem solving and exploring. Learn about the history of letterboxing.  Discover the program opportunities for letterboxing at GSCNC properties. Carve a stamp and create a log book.

This workshop deals with men as volunteers in Girl Scouting. It covers awareness of sensitivities and cautions when working with girls, as well as the benefits of including men in the organization. Is it Magic?  Is it Science?  Have fun with hands-on activities and tricks that allow girls to experience science wonders in a magical way, including floating paperclips on water, hovering ping-pong balls, the explosive power of bubbles, and learning the science behind magic tricks.

Sidewalk Games
Want to get your girls to burn off some energy with a minimum amount of equipment? Consider introducing them to hopscotch, four-square, jump roping, hacky-sack and jacks.  As an addition to World Thinking Day activities learn what variations exist in hopscotch around the world, see how four-square varies by country and learn new jump rope rhymes for singles or double-dutch. Do you know how to play hacky-sack Korean style?  Participants will go home with chalk, a jump rope and instructions for all of the games taught.

Website Basics
Ever wonder how to put the Internet to use for your troop, service unit or association?  Thought about creating a website to better get the word out to your girls?  Wanted to do these things but found them overwhelming and had no idea where to start?  Then this class is for you!  We will cover everything from use of email and online groups such as Yahoo to some simple information to get you on your way to building a website.  A large part of the class time will be spent discussing websites.  NOTE:  If you are looking for actual website development training, this class is NOT for you.  We will only be discussing resources and options.

Learn how to set the scene for a successful campfire.  Discover the important elements of a campfire.  When you leave you will be able to help your girls plan a successful campfire program.

Every Girl, Everywhere; Welcoming Girls & Families with Disabilities
Explore practical ways to welcome girls of all abilities into your troop! How do we plan for field trips, overnights, earned recognitions and troop meetings so everyone may participate? This workshop will include discussions on a variety of disabilities and impairments that children and families may encounter that would challenge their participation in the Girl Scout program.

Board Games as Crafts & Fun
Create and play favorite board games such as chess, checkers, gabata/owari, or create your own. Participants will make game sets for two or more games and get a chance to play them as well. Chess and checkerboards will use weaving skills, stickers and bottle caps. Owari is a cup and stone game that can be created with egg cartons and beans. Ideas for variations on Monopoly, Snakes and Ladders or Stop and Go will be available as well. Participants should bring scissors, glue stick, and a bag to take home your games.

Building Bridges with Muslim Girl Scouts
You've got Muslim Girl Scouts in your troop.  You've met Muslim troop leaders at Service Unit and Association meetings.  But did you know that marshmallows are made with pork and a Muslim Girl Scout won’t be able to enjoy that s'mores?  So where can you learn those things you've always wanted to know -- before you need to know them?  This session will focus on GSCNC's proven dedication to diversity and inclusion by sharing past experiences (as well as suggestions for the future) of Muslim Girl Scouting in order to build bridges of peace, respect and harmony at all levels of our Council's program -- from little Daisies on up to adults!

Conversation Across Cultures: Why the Way We Talk Matters
Most of us use language in some way all day long, at work and at play, though we rarely give it much thought.  In fact, language is one of the main ways we build all kind of social relationships. Through interactive demonstrations, discussion, and written and video examples, participants will explore variations in communication style and how their awareness of these differences can ease cross-cultural interactions.

Girl Scout Vintage Fashion Shows & Archive's Oral History Project
A troop of Runway models! Host a Fashion show! Troops can borrow uniforms from the Archives and History loaner collection. Come to learn more! Learn about a resource kit available to Teen troops, that have everything necessary to conduct Oral History interviews for an IPA, Studio 2B activity, Silver Award Project or service hours.

How to Communicate with Deaf Adults and Children
Learn how leaders can communicate with deaf adults and children in all aspects of Girl Scouting.  Participants will receive handouts that include the Girl Scout Promise, Pledge of Allegiance, American Sign Language Alphabet, Communication Tips, Interpreters Code of Ethics, ADA and other information.  Presentation will include audience
role-playing session and Q&A.  Presenter will also provide personal information and insight on how to obtain interpreters, and how to include girls who are deaf in Girl Scout activities.  Come and learn how to sign the Girl Scout Promise, Pledge of Allegiance and Alphabet.

Hand in Hand - A Model for Access and Inclusion
This workshop will showcase the hands-on traveling exhibit "Language for the Eye" created by Imagination Stage, Inc. and the National Children's Museum, which explores the science, technology, culture and history of deafness.  It will also feature a brief performance by members of Imagination Stage's Sr. Deaf Access Company, made up of hearing and deaf students who work together to create theatre in a completely inclusive and accessible environment. This class will also feature an open discussion to help leaders build strategies and gain resources for creating an accessible and inclusive environment within their activities.
