Fund Development

As the season changes and we prepare for the upcoming holiday season, we hope you will consider supporting Girl Scouting with a gift to the SHARE annual giving campaign. SHARE helps provide programs, training, and financial assistance so that every girl receives the best Girl Scout experience. Click here to help today! Donations are tax-deductible and can be matched by your employer or your spouse's employer to double or even triple the impact of your gift. With a total gift of $600 or more, you and a guest will be invited to the President's Circle dinner in March at the Four Seasons. We hope to see you there!

Girl Scout Shop

Come visit the Girl Scout Shop! We have news, specials, mini and mobile shop options too.

Membership

GSCNC offers a variety of spring and summer day and evening camp programs for girls throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area. The programs are as different as the girls. Look for camp brochures to be mailed directly to each home in January. More

Product Sales

Decades ago, Juliette Gordon Low, Girl Scouting's founder, was convinced that girls should learn the skills to earn their own way and contribute to their troop. She wanted girls to learn skills that would increase their self-confidence and add new dimensions to their lives. Marketing products were the result of this commitment to encourage girls to develop life skills. Product Sales presents opportunities for girls to:

  • Learn the importance of goal-setting and develop plans to achieve a goal.
  • Understand how their efforts contribute to the overall good of their council and Girl Scouting.
  • Put the ethical standards of the Girl Scout Promise and Law into practice.
  • Learn about entrepreneurship and basic business and financial planning.
  • Develop high levels of self-esteem, self-reliance, and personal achievement.
  • Heighten their career awareness.
  • Develop interpersonal and teamwork skills.

At GSCNC, Product Sales takes three forms. We sell calendars in the fall, cookies in the winter and magazines in the spring. Details for all three programs can be found on the GSCNC website.

Program Challenges

Have you ever planned a meeting or birthday party and faced the challenge of guests who changed their mind about coming or just did not show up? It is frustrating when you plan for a certain number and have "no-shows" and last-minute cancellations. Considerable time and money - money that you help us raise through cookie sales and SHARE - is spent planning council programs, and it is frustrating for GSCNC staff and volunteers when programs are affected by cancellations and no-shows.

How can you help? By teaching your daughter the value of commitment. The best way to do this is to model committed behavior. When your daughter's troop leader asks if she will attend an event, check everyone's calendar to make sure there are no conflicts before you make a commitment. Then help your daughter understand that people are counting on her. Sometimes a commitment means having to pass up something else that comes along later, but helping your daughter develop a sense of commitment helps her develop her character. Courage, Confidence and Character are what Girl Scouting helps develop and YOU play a vital role in making this happen.

Financial Assistance for Girl Scouts

Financial Assistance is designed to help registered Girl Scouts (girls and adults) participate in Girl Scout activities where financial considerations might otherwise hinder such participation.
