Patches

Patch Retirement Chart

Patches are insignia that are worn on the back of the uniform. They can be official Girl Scout awards designed by GSUSA or the council, troops, or service units. Commercial vendors, such as museums, sometimes design them. Patches can be designated as earned awards with requirements or participation patches that are available to anyone attending an event and are worn on the back of the uniform.

African-Americans in Congress - Challenges girls to explore contributions made to history by black leaders and to learn advocacy strategies in order to make a difference in their communites. (C, S, A)

DASHboard Road Safety -   Not Available in the Girl Scout Shop After December 2012  Girls develop critical thinking and practical life skills which prepare them to be safe on the road, whether they are in the driver's seat, the passenger seat or on the sidewalk. Discover the Nation's Capital - Encourages girls to explore points of interest throughout Washington, D.C. This patch is the middle of the sampler and three segments are available to earn and wear around the center patch. (ALL)

Gardens Segment - Explores gardens throughout Washington, D.C.

Statuary Segment - Explores statues throughout Washington, D.C.

Transportation Segment - Encourages girls to learn about various modes of public transportation in Washington, D.C.

Grow Strong - Provides resources and activities that instill in girls the habits that will influence their emotional and physical health for the rest of their lives. (B, J, C, S, A)

Honor Troop - Earned annually by troops that meet specific requirements in the areas of membership recruitment and retention, adult leadership, girl program and financial management.

Including ALL Girls - Educates girls about inclusion and how they can include girls with disabilities in all aspects of Girl Scouts. The patch program will heighten Girl Scouts’ awareness, understanding and acceptance of people’s differences and disabilities. (ALL)

Sun Safety - Promotes early learning about the steps girls can take to protect themselves from the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays, and encourages them to pledge to educate others about practicing smart sun behavior and skin cancer prevention. (ALL)

Super Service Unit - Earned annually by service units that meet specific requirements in the areas of recruitment and retention of service unit team members, support of troop leaders/advisors, support of the council's goals and financial management.
