Council's Own recognitions and Patch Programs offer girls the opportunity
to learn about subjects that are an extension of Try-Its, Badges and Interest
Project Patches, are of local interest only or support focused goals of
the council. Girls in any council are welcome to earn the recognitions
listed on this page. New programs are announced in Capital Notes when
they become available. Copies of these programs are available from the
Information Center info@gscnc.org
or downloadable from this page. Once requirements are completed, patches
can be ordered from our Girl Scout Shop www.gscnc.org/shop
and are usually listed on the Blue Order Form.
Try-Its, Badges, and Interest Project Patches are the official
age-specific insignia for the respective Brownie, Junior and Cadette/Senior
Girl Scout levels. Daisy Girl Scouts earn Petals specific to parts of
the Girl Scout Law. Most of these insignia are developed by GSUSA. For
information on GSUSA insignia and where to place patches, please click
here.
A "Troop's Own" badge or interest project can be designed
by any Junior or Cadette/Senior Girl Scout troop. Except for approval
for use of GSUSA words and logos, the group does not need approval if
the girls designing the award will be the only girls earning the award.
If the award will be available to others, council approval is required.
There is no provision for "Troop's Own" Brownie Try-It. For
guidelines on creating a Troop's Own badge or IP, click here.
GSCNC has several "Council's Own" awards. These official
recognitions can be worn on the front of the uniform and are available
to girls in any council to earn.
Patches are insignia that are worn on the back of the uniform.
Patches can be official Girl Scout awards designed by GSUSA or the council,
troops, or service units. Commercial vendors, such as museums, sometimes
design them. Patches can be designated as earned awards with requirements
or participation patches that are available to anyone attending
an event.
