Bridging The Gap

GSCNC Programs

Bridging the Gap is designed to change the negative attitudes of girls and women towards science, engineering and mathematics activities. It is a specifically tailored marketing approach to adult leaders that is based on the premise "anyone can do science". It utilizes the Girl Scout Service Team and training structure along with easy-to-use materials that work with Girl Scout recognitions. It is a troop based program that comes in tubs with materials for doing science and math activities. Each tub comes with a book with detailed descriptions, (recipes) for doing science experiments. They include the questions and the answers along with a list of things supplied and a list of things needed. Many of the books have links to other badges, try-its and handbook activities.

BTG Activity Tub Contents

Nosebag Science is a fun way to introduce girls and adults to Bridging the Gap by experiencing activities that are based on science that they are likely to encounter everyday. The activities are simple and use easy to find and use supplies. It gives presenters a chance to explain the whole program. It is so important to make science fun for girls through hands-on activities. Once the girls discover how much fun science and math activities can be they will have the incentive to go on to earn more Girl Scout recognitions in science and math and they will achieve better grades in their classes in school.

Bridging the Gap lets girls and adults explore, ask questions, take risks, and stretch their interests as far as their enthusiasm will allow. After all, "Learning is directly proportional to the amount of fun you have!!"
