Transforming Leadership

GSUSA is launching the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience, designed to support our continued efforts to provide the premier leadership experience for girls.

There are three main components:

  • New Program levels—based on more developmentally appropriate grouping
  • New Program materials—aligned with quantifiable outcomes
  • Outcome measures— assessing the impact of Girl Scouting

We will continue to share materials with you, as they become available to us. In this brief newsletter we will explain GSCNC’s plan for transition with program levels and materials.

GSCNC’s Timeline for Change

Regarding Program levels—No change right now. For Early Bird and Fall of 2008 we are keeping it simple. Use the current forms and levels when registering.

Regarding Program materials—We are flexible. Pioneering girls, eager to jump ahead and try out the new program materials are more than welcome to do so.
Current awards and program opportunities will continue to be available.

Exploring the New Program Materials—Journeys

WHAT is a Journey?
Journeys are new program materials, consisting of a coordinated
series of activities designed to build a specific skill. They will include a girl handbook, a facilitator’s guide and multiple patches
that can be earned.

WHEN can we see them?
In Summer of 2008, one Journey for each program level will be
available for purchase.

HOW do I learn more?
In addition to all available earned awards and program opportunities, girls and their leaders can decide whether they are interested in trying out these new materials.

Journey Training for GSCNC volunteers will be available through the Adult Volunteer Development Department in Summer 2008. The Program Department will offer girl and adult “Journey
Events” to model their use.
