Connections Corner

The Connections Corner lists opportunities to link with troops across the country and around the world. These troops contacted the council requesting to be linked to local troops. As always, please safeguard yours and the girls’ personal information when contacting anyone you do not already know.

Daisy Pen Pals in California

January 2008: Troop 379 from Girl Scouts of Heart of Central California is looking for pen pals. These nine Daisies want to forge friendships with girls across the country to help them learn how to be sisters to every Girl Scout. Plus this is a great opportunity to learn about other parts of the United States. If your troop is interested, please contact troop leader Jamie White at jamie_marie@email.com.

U.S. Girl Scout Pen Pal Network

Connect with girls in another council through the U.S. Girl Scout Pen Pal Network. The national pen pal network connects Brownie, Junior and Teen Girl Scout troops (not individuals) to form lasting friendships. As participants in this program, girls are asked to correspond with their pen pals for at least one year after the link is made. Troops are reminded to be patient in waiting to be matched with pen pals.

If you are from another council and are interested in participating in the Pen Pals program, please contact the Pen Pal coordinator at your council. That coordinator will then be able to find pen pals here or in other locations throughout the country for you. GSCNC will only match girls from other councils who have come through their council's Pen Pal coordinators. This process is in place for the safety of the girls. Thank you for your cooperation.

To participate, GSCNC troops complete the application form (PDF) and return it to the GSCNC office or call administrative assistant Tamara Vroom at 202-237-1670 or 800-523-7898 ext. 270 for a paper copy. GSCNC troops should NOT contact other councils directly.

Thinking Day Postcard Exchange

Celebrate Thinking Day by making friends from across the country and around the world through the Thinking Day Postcard Exchange. Organized by a troop in Savannah, GA, this program allows you to join a group of people interested in trading postcards with Girl Scouts everywhere. Last year 3,145 U.S. troops and 675 international units from 43 countries participated. For information or to register for the program, visit www.mythinkingday.com. If the site shows a blank page, please revisit when the server is less busy.

Host a Nebraska Troop Mascot

September 2007: A troop in Nebraska is seeking a sister troop of 3rd grade Brownies to host their troop mascot. Hosts should plan to take the mascot on events with them, take photos at the event, send updates and the photos by e-mail or snail mail back to the troop in Nebraska. The host would then be responsible for sending the mascot on to the next troop being visited. If interested, please contact Shirley Terry at shirleyterry1998@hotmail.com.
