Julia Nixon

A beloved fixture on the Washington, DC, music scene for many years, Julia Nixon will release a new CD titled "Julia" this fall.

She has performed in "Smokey Joe's Café" (touring company), and she presented a triumphant and moving performance as the lead in Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori's "Caroline, or Change" at The Studio Theatre in Washington ? a role for which she won the 2007 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical.

Julia gained local fame with "Julia & Company" in the 1980's and '90's. She catapulted onto the national stage as the lead in the original production of "Dreamgirls" on Broadway, replacing Jennifer Holiday. She has appeared at Radio City Music Hall, The White House, Lincoln and Kennedy centers and has to her credit performance associations with Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Kenny G., Bruce Willis and Richard Pryor.
