Age Groups: All (click for more information)

The 14th annual Library of Congress National Book Festival will be held this year on Saturday, August 30th in Washington, DC at the Washington Convention Center from 10am-10pm.

The Library of Congress is pleased to announce that the new 2014 National Book Festival patch for scouts is now available online at loc.gov/shop (See photo below).

This is the third year that festival scout patches are available and we appreciate you spreading the word!

Book lovers of all ages will convene at the Washington Convention Center to celebrate books and reading. Consider a trip for your troop to the Library of Congress National Book Festival to hear from popular authors and illustrators, get books signed, and take part in fun activities. This year’s line-up of children’s authors includes Eric Litwin, Jeffrey Brown, Ilyasah Shabazz, Andrea Beaty and many more!

Order the patch for your scouts and let them proudly show off their attendance at this memorable event. Patches will also be available for purchase on-site at the festival.

We would also like to announce the “A Book That Shaped Me” National Book Festival Summer Writing Contest which encourages rising 5th & 6th graders to reflect on a book that has made a personal impact on their lives. The contest is administered through local public library systems in the Mid-Atlantic region, and top winners are honored at the Library of Congress in October.

Visit the contest web site for full entry details, contest deadline, prize information, and to see which local libraries are taking part this year. http://www.loc.gov/bookfest/kids-teachers/booksthatshape/

We ask that you share information about the festival ,patch, and contest with your scouts and consider posting information in your online event calendars and newsletters.
