Your Turn to Lead
Youth leaders gather at Howard University
On Saturday, June 23, 250 girl youth leaders convened for Your Turn to Lead, held at Howard University. Designed by the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital as a leadership conference to inspire teen girls to recognize their own abilities and become active in their schools and in their communities, the inspiring program is in it’s fifth year.
Through out the day, girls went to various workshops and learned about a wide variety of topics including: leadership skills, empowerment tools, financial literacy, higher learning, safe driving and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers. Teens had the opportunity to tour Howard University Campus and sit at a formal dinner setting with power mentors.
Here's what girls who attended the 2012 conference had to say about the event:
"Your Turn to Lead made me realize there are a lot of leadership opportunities out there."
"It showed me what steps I need to save money and reach my goals."
"I learned the deeper meaning of being a leader."
