Girl Scouts Day at NewseumExplore journalism and role of media
Saturday February 16, 2013 was Girl Scout Day at the Newseum. The Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital joined together with Girl Scouts of Central Maryland to host the event. Girl Scouts enjoyed a fun-filled day at the Newseum They participated in NewsMania, the Newseum’s popular game show. The showed each other how much they knew about Girl Scouts, women’s history, and today’s news. They learned how women's suffrage activists used their First Amendment rights to bring attention to their cause. Girl Scouts participated in a gallery talk on women in journalism and designed T-shirts celebrating their right to free expression The highlight of the day was the Keynote Address and Media Panel. Girl Scouts listened to women leaders as they discussed their career paths and offered their advice. Panelists included Andrea Stone of USA Today; Angela Greiling Keane, Washington based reporter for Bloomberg News and National Press Club president-elect; Danielle Ivory, Bloomberg News reporter; Debi Jarvis, Pepco vice president, Corporate Citizenship and Social Responsibility; Angie Goff, WRC-TV weekend morning anchor; and Jennifer DePaul, tax reporter for The Bond Buyer’s Washington, D.C., bureau. The panel was hosted by Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital, CEO Lidia Soto-Harmon.
