Sudden Service in Action
Sudden Service Girl Scouts
Each year the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital receives requests from local and national organizations and governmental agencies for Girl Scouts to perform duties such as flag ceremonies, help at receptions and special events and speak with media about the opportunities available to all Girl Scouts.
Sudden Service was created to allow Girl Scouts to take part in these often prestigious and limited access events. These requests--often made at the last minute--may ask for a specific number of girls, or a particular age group.
Our Sudden Service Girl Scouts have been busy this summer.
On June 20, 2013 Girl Scouts attended the 2013 Refugee Day at the United States State Department with Secretary of State, John Kerry.
On June 27, 2013 Girl Scouts performed the opening Flag Ceremony at the 2013 Congressional Softball Game. The game was played with Women Members of Congress vs. The DC Press Corps (Bad News Babes). The final score ended the game at 11 to 8, with the Bad News Babes as the winners.
