September 15 – October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month. Americans observe this month in celebration of the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. Did you know Lidia Soto-Harmon, CEO of Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital is a Latina? Lidia is the daughter of Cuban immigrants, born in the USA and raised in Ecuador and El Salvador. Lidia shares her mother’s journey to America and how her mother has inspired her on our blog.
National Hispanic Heritage Month is the perfect time for Girl Scouts to earn a special patch, Chicas: Discovering Hispanic Heritage. This patch is designed to help Girl Scouts of all cultures develop an understanding and appreciation of the Hispanic/Latin American culture through Discover, Connect and Take Action.
Download the patch guidelines for activities and to learn how your troop can earn the Chicas patch.
