Girl Scouts on Capitol Hill
Congressional Bring Your Daughter to Work Day
On Tuesday, April 28, 2014, Girl Scouts from our council participated in the annual Congressional Bring Your Daughter to Work Day. The girls had the opportunity to shadow women members of congress and learn how our government works.
After their shadow assignments, the Girl Scouts joined congressional staffers and a panel of speakers for a briefing on girls and financial literacy. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee joined the group to discuss the importance of financial literacy and girl leadership.
At the briefing, Gold Award Girl Scout Erinn E. from Gaithersburg, MD, shared her experience earning her Gold Award. She loves math and wants to be a special education teacher, so for her project she brought the two together. She decided to teach girls with special needs about financial literacy.
