Camp Leadership

Assistant Camp Director

Assists in training, supervision, guidance and leadership of all unit staff with regard to unit program. Assists the Camp Director with administrative tasks.  21+, current driver's license.

Program

Program Director
Coordinates and supervises unit schedules, all-camp programs, and program specialists. Coordinates supplies and resources for specialty programs and areas.  21+, current driver's license.


Arts and Crafts Specialist
Plans and implements the arts and crafts program. Provides resource materials and support for the unit staff. Assists with unit programming in the evening. Arts and Crafts Manager position is available at May Flather and Winona to oversee multiple specialists.  Manager position: 21+, current driver's license.

Nature/Science Specialist   
Plans and implements the nature program. Provides resource materials and support for the unit staff. Assists with unit programming in the evening.

Program Specialist
Plans and implements a variety of activities for unit staff. Activities may include initiative games, archery, camping skills, etc. Provides resource materials and support for the unit staff. Assists with unit programming in the evening.

Grant Specialist    
Plans and implements a variety of activities for Grant initiatives. Assists with unit programming in the evening. Responsible for tracking the implementation of grant programs including taking photos, noting stories, tracking numbers of participants, and more.

Office Management

Business and Logistics Director
Coordinates all business operations of camp. Manages purchasing and record keeping and submits paperwork weekly. Oversees office operations including phone, mail, and office supplies. 21+, current driver's license.

Office Specialist   
Oversees office operations including phone, mail, and office supplies. 

Media Specialist
The Communications Specialist is responsible for photographing campers and staff throughout each camp day, uploading the photographs to our Camp Community site. The Communications Specialist is not involved with the relationship between the public media and camp.

Food Service

Kitchen Manager   
This position is responsible for administering and supervising the food planning, purchasing, preparation and service to the camp. Maintain health and safety standards, safe food standards, ACA standards and a sanitary kitchen. The Kitchen Manager must be able to supervise cooks and kitchen assistants; identify and respond to hazards: plan nutritious menus, order food, and prepare and present tasteful food: able to operate food service equipment such as slicer, mixer, ovens, stoves, dishwasher, and other tools used in normal food service. 21+, Must have the ability to lift heavy loads, Hold a current food handler’s certification 

Kitchen Assistant
Assist the Kitchen Manager and Cook(s) with food preparation and service. Cleans food preparation areas and equipment.

Cook
Reports to the Kitchen Manager. Responsible for the preparation of all camp meals in accordance with pre-planned menus. Must have the ability to lift heavy loads, Hold a current food handler’s certification

 

Health Services

Camp Nurse
Operates the camp Health Center. Supervises all aspects of medical care for campers and staff. Dispenses medication and follows Doctor's Medical Treatment Procedures. 21+, current RN or EMT certification, current driver's license.

Health Center Manager
Assists with the operation of the Camp Health Center and all aspects of medical care for campers. Prefer 21+, nursing student, pre-med student or current RN or EMT certification.  Current driver's license preferred.

Health Center Assistant       
Assists with the operation of the Camp Health Center and all aspects of medical care for campers. Must be 18+, and nursing student, pre-med student or current RN or EMT preferred. Current driver's license preferred.

Adventure

Adventure Director
Coordinates and supervises the caving, climbing archery, canoeing, backpacking and challenge course program. Ensures that proper procedures are being followed to meet the safety guidelines for all adventure activities. Supervises adventure staff. 21+, current driver's license.

Adventure Specialist
Assist with the implementation of the caving, climbing, archery, canoeing, backpacking or challenge course program. Assist with unit programming in the evening.

Tripping Manager
Manages all off-camp trips.  Trains girls and staff in backpacking- including fitting and packing a backpack, setting up tents, meal planning, trail mapping, etc.  Supervises backpacking trips.  21+, current driver's license.

Aquatics

Waterfront or Aquatic Manager
Coordinates and supervises boating activities on the waterfront. At May Flather, supervises pool and canoeing program. At Coles Trip, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing on the waterfront. Supervises waterfront staff and ensures that safety standards are being met on the waterfront. At May Flather, also supervises pool and Pool Director.  21+, current driver's license, current lifeguard and CPR:PR certifications.

Pool Manager
Coordinates and supervises the aquatic program at the swimming pool. Manages and maintains records, reports, health and safety standards and the pool.  21+, current driver's license, current lifeguard and CPR:PR certifications.

Sailing, Kayaking, Canoeing, and Windsurfing
Work in conjunction with the Waterfront/Pool Director to implement the sailing/kayaking/canoeing/windsurfing program. Ensure that safety standards are being met. Assists with unit programming in the evening when waterfront is closed.  21+, current lifeguard and CPR:PR certifications.

Lifeguard
Assists with the implementation of the aquatic program. Works as a lifeguard. Assists with unit programming in the evening when pool/waterfront is closed.  Current lifeguard and CPR:PR certifications.

Unit Leadership

Unit Manager   
Supervise and support the unit side of camp to insure that interesting, motivating, thorough and safe programs are scheduled and carried out for all campers. 21+, current driver's license preferred.

Youth Leadership   
Coordinates and implements the Counselor in Training leadership development program.  Facilitates and guides teens' development of skills in camp activities, outdoor living and leadership.  Oversees Junior Counselors within units.  21+, current driver's license preferred.

Inclusion   
Coordinates accommodations for campers with additional needs.

Unit Leader
Manages the living unit, coordinates activities and assures girl partnership in the development of activities. Supervises unit staff.  21+ and current driver's license preferred.

Unit Counselor
Assists the Unit Leader with planning and implementation of activities. Responsible for the direct daily supervision of girls in the living unit and program areas.

Junior Counselor
A program for girls completing 11th or 12th grade who are not yet 18 years old.

Other

Facilities Assistant   
Assist the caretaker with overall daily maintenance and upkeep of the property.  21+, current driver's license.

Can't Work the Whole Summer?
  • We prefer staff to commit to working at least three weeks of the summer, and we can work with you to find a position that will fit with your schedule. 
  • Do you have to leave camp early to go back to college or be an RA? That's not a problem. 
  • We can also work with staff who can't start working until after staff training. Our first campers arrive at Potomac Woods on June 11, and on June 18 for May Flather and Winona. Staff arriving after those dates may require some extra training, see the chart below for details.

New Paid Summer Internship Program

What is the difference between a counselor and an intern?

  • Interns will be assigned a mentor, and meet on weekly basis to discuss goals and progress.
  • Interns will complete an end of summer project.
  • Interns will have 2 hours a week written into their schedule to specifically work on internship materials for their school or their end of a summer project, as needed.

Depending on the camp, internship placements can last between 8 to 11 weeks. Interns can log about 60 hours a week. Some additional hours may be available in the late spring, to assist with camp preparation.

Counselor in Training (CIT) (Girls in grades 9-11)

These programs are designed for girls who would like to work with younger campers and learn what it's like to be a Camp Counselor.

Counselor In Training (CIT) I (9 to 11)
Find the leader in you in this two-week program.  Learn to lead songs, games and other camp activities, and experience the challenges and rewards of working with younger girls in an outdoor setting while earning your CIT I pin. CIT I is a two-week program; participants must leave camp on their weekend breaks. Bus transportation is available.
Fee: $560

Counselor in Training (CIT) II (10 to 11) 
The CIT II program is a three-week leadership opportunity. Girls will learn to teach outdoor camping skills in a variety of programs, as well as earn their CIT II pin. CIT II is a three-week program; participants must leave camp on their weekend breaks. Bus transportation is available.
Fee: $600

Junior Counselor (Girls in grades 11-12)

The Junior Counselor program is for girls who have already completed a CIT program, or a similar program, and would like to further enhance their leadership skills by learning what it’s like to be a camp counselor. Junior Counselors work alongside staff and are given similar job responsibilities, they will receive training and be given opportunities to lead activities. This is a great opportunity for girls planning to be camp counselors in the future and who will be 16-years of age or older by June 11, 2023 and will have completed 11th or 12th grade.
