Description & Activities

2021 Camp Theme: Games & Giggles Galore! Let the Games Begin!

Description: Guess who is the mastermind? Get on target with games in archery, seek and find the wonders of Nature, cooperate like a barrel of monkeys to conquer the chutes and ladders of our team challenge opportunity. Strategize and escape to a land of sweets for hand-cranked frozen treats, or share the rhythm of singing & action games. Build empires and towers, but don’t be sorry and topple them! Test your memory and mine your skills to perfection when favorite games emerge from boards and video screens as life-sized fun. Get our clue? Make sure to connect for Ashgrove Adventure’s Games & Giggles Galore for the time of your life.

Activities: Slingshots, tomahawks, archery, challenge course, outdoor skills, outdoor cooking, arts & crafts, songs, games, drama, nature/STEM, hiking

Field Trips: Instead of field trips this year, Older Girls and Teen aides will have special activities at camp.

Overnights: There will not be an overnight this year.

Camp activities (including field trips, extended hours, and overnights) are offered at the discretion of the camp leadership team and may be modified or canceled to follow COVID-19 restrictions. Camp activities may not be available to all units and can be canceled due to weather or other extenuating circumstances.

Camp Location: Camp Crowell

Bus Transportation: No bus transportation is available this year.

Buddy Policy: Buddy Requests are limited to 1, and both girls must request the other.

Volunteer at Camp!

Ashgrove Adventure is planned and put on each year by a group of dedicated Girl Scout volunteers! Due to safety ratios, enough adults must volunteer each year for camp to run. Unfortunately, if not enough volunteers sign up, camp will be cancelled. We need your help to ensure that camp can happen this year and that every girl has an amazing camp experience.

Benefits of Volunteering

  • Guaranteed placement for your camper(s) – bypass the lottery and get early registration access in December/January
  • Reduced registration rate – you could receive $75 off the camp registration fee!
  • Units at camp for sons and preschool-aged children of volunteers - yes, they get to come to camp too!
  • Receive volunteer hours for training and camp days
  • Network with other Girl Scout volunteers in your area
  • Learn new skills, try new things, and take part in fun camp traditions!

Visit or connect with Sharon Kraftchak, camp director, at or 703-862-6338. You’ll be happy you did!

Teen Leadership Opportunities

AIT Requirements: Must have completed 7th grade and have some camping and leadership experience. Prospective AITs must apply by completing a paper application from the Ashgrove Adventure website and mailing it via USPS with their references and responses. AIT applications must be postmarked by February 16, 2021 to be considered.

Aide Requirements: Must have completed Program Aide training and completed 9th grade, OR must have completed the Ashgrove AIT program and completed 8th grade. Aides (both girls and staff boys) must complete an online application including references on the Ashgrove website. The application is due February 16th, 2021.

Teen Leadership Program Information: We are expecting to have a pre-camp overnight for AITs where they will work on planning and training and learn to work as a team. AITs will work with units of different ages and at interest centers to develop a sense of where they will be most comfortable as an Aide. AITs host the Flag retirement for older units and will have a special activity at camp on June 24 and July 1. AITs can decide how their service hours are applied. Aides will be assigned to units or interest centers based on their preferences and staffing needs, and will work with adults and other aide staff. There will be a New to Ashgrove Aide training on April 18th and an All Aide training the Saturday before camp opens. There will be special aide gatherings during camp. Aides will receive documentation to self-track their service/leadership hours and may apply them as they see fit.
