Description & Activities

2022 Camp Theme: Nature

Description: Get ready for your summer adventure! Burke Lake Adventures encourages girls to explore, be themselves, challenge themselves, make new friends, and build self-esteem while enjoying themselves at camp. Campers will learn songs, play games, make arts and crafts, gain outdoor skills, and work towards badges. Our program is outdoors and the girls participate in nature hikes.

Activities: Outdoor Skills, badge earning, outdoor cooking, arts and crafts, songs, games, nature/STEM, and hiking. 

Extended Hours: After camp hours will not be offered this summer.

Camp activities (including field trips, extended hours, and overnights) are offered at the discretion of the camp leadership team and may be modified or canceled to follow COVID-19 restrictions. Camp activities may not be available to all units and can be canceled due to weather or other extenuating circumstances.

Camp Location: Burke Lake Park

Bus Transportation: No bus transportation is available.

Volunteer at Camp!

Burke Lake Adventures is planned and put on each year by a group of dedicated Girl Scout volunteers! Due to safety ratios, enough adults must volunteer each year for camp to run. Unfortunately, if not enough volunteers sign up, camp will be cancelled. We need your help to ensure that camp can happen this year and that every girl has an amazing camp experience.

Registration Information

Placement Type: Lottery

Lottery Registration Deadline: May 15

Lottery Notification:  May 31

Register your camper based on their 2021-2022 school year grade.

Refund Policy: Full refunds will be provided if requested on or before April 30. Refunds after May 1 will not be provided, and registrations on or after May 1 will not qualify for any refunds.

In the event of a camp cancellation by Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital, you will receive a full refund. If you must unexpectedly cancel your registration for this camp for reasons related to COVID-19, you will receive a full refund regardless of the time of cancellation. 

Teen Leadership Opportunities

AIT Requirements: Must have attended a Girl Scout day/evening camp and have completed 6th grade. Prospective AITs should first register for the camp lottery. After the camp lottery, selected AITs must complete an online survey.

Aide Requirements: Must have completed Program Aide training and completed 8th grade.

Teen Leadership Program Information: AIT and aide training will take place in May (possibly virtual depending on COVID-19 restrictions). Hours earned as an AIT or aide may be used towards community service. Aides will assist leaders with planning and will help where needed at camp.
