Happy Mother’s Day! A May Blog Post from CEO Lidia Soto-Harmon
Dear Girl Scout Family,
Happy May and Happy Mother’s Day! This month we celebrate many different activities occurring in our Council, and as always, we are excited to have you join us. This weekend we have two amazing things happening, the first being the annual “In Your Honor” ceremony, and the second being Mother’s Day!
This year we had a record number of Girls in our Council earn their higher awards. 226 Girls earned their Gold Award, 775 Girls earned their Silver Award, and 147 Girl Scouts received their Silver Trefoil Award. That is over 1,110 Girls who put in countless hours of hard work to earn their awards! We are so excited to honor them and their projects that have made their communities, and ultimately our world a better place. They are truly Girls the World Needs!
This weekend is also Mother’s Day! As a mother, I think of my mother and the many lessons I have learned from her. I named my daughter Nina as a tribute to my mother who has the same name. I have met so many women who remember their mother’s fondly because growing up they were also their troop leaders. So, this Sunday I am so grateful for all that mothers across our Council do for their families, their communities, and their Girl Scouts Troops! You deserve to be celebrated every day for what you do for others.
As we continue to move through Spring, it’s that time again, time for Spring Renewal! You can go online and sign up to be a Girl Scout for the 2023 Girl Scout year right now! Members that renew their membership by May 12th can attend and event with the singer and actress Kristen Bell, she played Anna in Disney’s animated film Frozen. The Paint the World Purple event will be available to all girls and lifetime members that renew their roles. To register, go to the My Account section of gsEvents. The event is happening at 6:30 PM on Thursday, May 19th. We are excited for you to be part of this fun online event.
I was thrilled that we were able to hold our Annual Meeting in
person on Saturday, April 30th
at the beautiful Prince
George’s County Stadium! We had over 800 attendees, we elected new
board members, gave adult recognitions, and learned all about the
strong position of our council. We are number one in membership,
number one in cookie sales and ready for an amazing summer camp
season! I am so grateful for all of the Girl Scout families,
volunteers and staff who made the time to come to the meeting. Watch
a montage of the meeting
. Thank you all for the
Thank you Girl Scout volunteers, Girl Scout families and especially Girl Scout Mothers who make everything happen. I hope you all have a Happy Mother’s Day and a wonderful May!
