
We are pleased to announce that Jessica McClain has been selected as the new Chief Financial Officer for Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital. She joined the team on October 20, 2021. In her new role Jessica joins the senior leadership team with strategic responsibility for finance and accounting, risk management, property, product program, retail merchandise, cyber security and business operations. Jessica served as the Controller for Brand USA, the destination marketing organization of the United States, revenue over $100M. Prior to joining Brand USA, Jessica spent 11 years in public accounting. She has worked for organizations such as Grant Thornton; IBM; and KPMG performing financial and information technology audits.

Jessica is an active member of the American Institute for Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), serving on the AICPA Foundation Board of Trustees and the AICPA Student Recruitment Committee. Jessica is a Board member of both the Maryland Association of CPAs Foundation and the Greater Washington Society of CPAs. Jessica gives back to the community as an appointed Board Member of Maryland 529 (formerly the Maryland College Savings Plan of Maryland).
Jessica earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration
from Towson University and her master’s degree in accounting from
George Washington University. Jessica is a Certified Public
Accountant licensed in Virginia. She is also a Certified Information
Systems Auditor, a
Certified Information Technology
Professional, Project Management Professional, and Certified
Government Financial Manager. Jessica and her husband are the proud
parents of two young children. Jessica grew up as a Girl Scout and
can’t wait for her daughter, Liz-Lorie, to become a Girl Scout Daisy
as soon as she is old enough.
For the past six years, the Council has had the exceptional leadership of Laura Bassett as our Chief Financial Officer. Laura led the Council through an unprecedented time for change, masterfully helping to increase stability to the organization through our iconic Cookie program and great dedication to investing in our eight camp properties. Most recently Laura helped navigate the organization through the pandemic. Laura, a Gold Award Girl Scout, joined the staff in 2004 and served in progressively important positions. She will be retiring in February 2022 with her husband to scenic Oregon. We welcome Jessica and we thank Laura for all of her valuable contributions.
