We just had an amazing day kicking off a new Girl Scout year with all our dedicated administrative volunteers. I am excited about all the new programs that are in store for our girls. We are launching 23 new STEM and Outdoor badges, which will have girls thinking like engineers, computer programmers and citizen scientists! We’re also offering a new high adventure course at Girl Scout Camp White Rock that ends with a thrilling 300 foot zip line. It’s never been a better time to be a G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker and Leader) at Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital.
I want to thank you for your continued commitment to Girl Scouts. We offer the world’s best leadership experience for girls. Nowhere else do girls have the opportunity to run their own business to finance their dreams; learn about our democracy as a Congressional Aide; push their personal boundaries climbing 35 feet above the ground on our high adventure ropes course; or demonstrate leadership by teaching healthy habits to youth in underserved communities, and earning Girl Scouts’ highest achievement, the Gold Award.
You may be aware of recent news that Boy Scouts of America is considering allowing girls to join their program. We respect the Boy Scout program and what they offer boys. We understand that many of our Girl Scout families have deep ties to both organizations, and we hope that continues. We want you to know that Girl Scouts will continue to be an independent organization that exclusively serves girls. Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
I think there is no better value, and no better program than Girl Scouts. We provide girls with a safe space to try new things, develop a range of skills, take on leadership roles, and have fun. As the mother of a Gold Award Girl Scout, I have seen firsthand how the Girl Scout experience helps girls grow in confidence, preparing them for a lifetime of success. We know there are a lot of options when it comes to how girls and their families spend their time. Thank you for choosing Girl Scouts.
Let’s have a great Girl Scout year.
